who are you guys moving to?
i am also considering cancelling my account.

I also set my downloads from miidnight to 6, but it's starting to queue up, what is the policy for weekends, also 00:00-06:00?

Yes. Weekends are still busy, so we can't really extend the zero rated hours over weekends.

This - my connection has been flawless. I'm able to stream when I want and download at capacity - even in the evenings when it used to be painfully slow for a couple of weeks a while ago.

Very happy TI subscriber :)

Why is Telkoms first solution to their problems to just take away from the customers? It amazes me how many people are willing to roll over and just accept telkoms pathetic, inept and greedy workings.

Ranger you argue that it is a few users who use the majority of the bandwidth and that is why you are making throttling even worse, but why is that your solution? Telkom should be upgrading infrastructure so that it can handle the usage of the paying customer.

Telkom offer a by far bellow international par service and a service that ranks extremely average even in Africa. Yet we as the customers are told that it is our faults and we are abusing the poor little ISP's. Telkom can not argue cost, or expenses of providing us internet when one they are unable to maintain the basic service offered, and two pay their managers massive salaries and bonuses every year.

I bet Telkom have never even heard of Net neutrality, and definitely could not tell you what it means.

As far as I understand, TI is just another ISP ... being limited by Telkom's shoddy, overpriced infrastructure and services. (Seperate from Telkom)

The real problem here in SA is Telkom with their high IPC pricings... probably because Telkom is one huge inefficient monstrosity who rapes their infrastructure for all it's worth, don't maintain infrastructure and are slow and sluggish when it comes to creating new infrastructure... hence the 5 VDSL customers they have to brag about VDSL in their promotional materials.

South Africa's only hope would probably be new technology.. like wireless tech that is just as reliable and cheap as ADSL or other private companies who build their own last mile infrastructure taking Telkom out of the loop or partially taking them out of things.

Alternatively we can hope Telkom to make a plan.. but I will probably be an old man with stick in hand and all when that happens... if it ever happens.

You need to separate the Telkom Wholesale/Networks' issues from the Telkom ISP issues. This thread is for the Telkom ISP issues.

I'll take that bet with you. How much?

Last time I checked, one is owned, operated, run, managed and controlled by the other.... You even need a telkom voice line to have telkom internet......
Sure R1000 says if either one of us call up the Telkom call center now and ask them to explain it they wouldn't be able to. Hell lets call up Sipho Maseko, I guarantee he wouldn't be able to either. And even if they did know what it meant, their business practice is almost the opposite of it. They have a monopoly, they regulate access to their benefit, they dictate the use of internet in South Africa. But hey, if you are happy with that, then good for you :).

Pretty happy with my telkom account, only problem is streaming on twitch from about 6pm to 10pm. Is this just their standard shaping policy ?

Call centre agent are mostly contract workers and work off scripts, so they won't know about net neutrality.

The CEO (and many other folks there) do know... want to phone him? Only R1000? I'll take that bet.

PS. And ICASA regulate what Telkom can and cannot do.

Web's a bit topsy-turvy this evening. Some websites are great, some will occasionally refuse to load. International speeds fluctuating between 50KB/s and 511KB/s.

Please ranger, give us ample BW for the E3 influx of videos / livestreams happening this week. We can't control what happens if there is an international issue but we can atleast ask that all is good this side of the earth :D.

We need sites like Twitch.tv / iGN / Gametrailers / GiantBomb / NeoGaf (when it isn't dead haha) and other popular sites to get full throttle.

Thanks

It's gotten so bad that Android app updates on my phone are failing all the time lately due to telkom internet.

When I switch to afrihost capped they download instantly without a hiccup.

4mbit line with great snr.

Am pleased to say i saw the most important announcements as they were shown but i had to do it via multiple streams :D. My only limiting factor was our downgraded 2Mbps uncapped connection. Next year i hope it will be different lol.

Thanks Ranger and team, only few more days and then TGS + Gamescom hits ;-) later this year.

If anyone knows which streams route through a european datacenter then please message or post here. It helps alot.

@DanH , i have my phone doing updates all times and i check when it also runs though with NO incomplete updates at all. Also running Ti on 2Mbps.

Am however running an SGSIII on an older original firmware :/ . Android v4.1.2
