Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

About half an hour ago, something went poof my end. Couldn't even get to this thread O_O.

Lets see what happens now.

Anyone else having issues this morning?
Been running fine whilst the rest of you were having issues (yes I had my fingers and toes crossed all the time), but this morning no web site works. I can't even browse to Telkom.co.za or do.co.za. weird part is that I can ping anything I want, but just can't browse a single website. Can't even get mail. Change to the free afrihost account and everything is peachy. Checked my usage tracker and still in the green.

Day 30 out of 30 for my cancellation notice period has come and gone (yesterday).

I should be excited. But no.

Still waiting for cancellation confirmation call for my reference TOC899391739.

TelkomZA says there is a "backlog".

Does anything still work at Telkom ?

Question: If I have a contract with Telkom, can I cancel just the data and keep the line, then use something like Afrihost business data package?

Feedback: Things are looking up for Telkom for the most part. Streaming internationally seems to be getting dominated by throttling still, however I have downloaded over 40GiB games off steam this month. Average speed 480KiB/s --8mbps line. Still in green for this month on the usage tracker. I would prefer it to achieve at least 6 or 7mbps (700-800KiB/s)... The Telkom Guest account and Afrihost 1GB Free get line speed, so I know it's no a physical limitation, and I shouldn't be getting rate limited since I am way within usage limits. I'd expect ~75% line speed, not 40-50%.

So yesterday i got home and did a quick speed test, low and behold i was syncing at 1.7MB of my 2MB line, fired up Netflix and my son was watching a movie although at 480p no problem.

Had to do work later that night at 8pm, got crappy http speeds. don't understand why normal browsing is sh#t slow. always on telkom. Afrihost is fast on http.

Quick question, since i got my 2MB line I've never been able to to stream more then 480p even at the rare times my line seems to be stable. Is it even possible to get 720p on a 2MB? Should i look at upgrading to a 4MB line or is there other factors at play here.

I see Durban gets a POP?
Going active this weekend.

Telkom Internet continually strives to enhance the online experience of our customers and, as such, it is necessary for us to make changes to our ADSL environment from time to time.

In keeping with our endeavour to inform our customers of the changes and enhancements to our network, we would like to inform you that an additional Point of Presence (PoP) has been built in Durban and is now ready to be commissioned.

The Durban Telkom Internet PoP will be taken live this coming weekend. On our ISP platform this will entail a migration of traffic from the Centurion (Gauteng) PoP to the new Durban (Kwa-Zulu Natal) PoP.

Our customers in the Eastern Region are hereby alerted to service downtime that will be experienced from Sunday, 23 February*02:00until*06:00.

Telkom is completely dead for me, I can't even browse web sites. Takes ages to get an IP when I reset my router.

Other ISP accounts work fine.

Totally dead here too. Modem connects and account authenticates... then ... Nothing...

No browsing, no email, no anything.. :wtf:

I'm posting this with an Afrihost account.

Can anyone explain what this actually means? :p

Everything is broken, also posting from Afrihost.

If you are in KZN your traffic currently goes to Centurion in JHB and from there it's routed to wherever it needs to go.

With a POP in Durban your traffic will get routed from Durban to wherever it has to go. So you cut out the delay to JHB and have more direct routing.

Awesome - thought it was something like that. Thanks!

Yes.
i did it.

Great. I will probably phone tomorrow. :)

Getting intermittent disconnects right now. Everything just dies for a couple minutes then reconnects.

Glad to hear Durban is finally getting a POP. Will it run down the East Coast to PE -> CT or will it be connecting directly to somewhere like Amsterdam?
