Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

I'm only getting 12kbps downloading from Microsoft's website.

4mbps line - uncapped.

Seems like every single ISP is just crap. Reading through the feedback threads of other ISPs including their business accounts and it seems one is worse than the other.

That's largely my take of it as well.

Somewhere, many moons ago, in the 1st of this thread - I half jokingly said that RSA's whole internet network is so fickle/brittle/stretched over capacity, that a migration of users from one ISP to another (i.e. that MWEB debacle), will probably result in a downturn in service at the new ISP of choice.

TI was that choice for many former-MWEB users. At (hard to believe now) that stage, TI was actually starting to provide a fairly decent and stable uncapped experience. Heck, we even had Ranger et al give us live updates and advice on what was happening, and when they expected it to be fixed.

And then the masses(?) descended. And then TI decided to roll-out an upgrade process that it appeared(?) not to be fully equipped to handle. And every Tom, Dick, and Harry (myself included) - saw streaming as the future replacement to NoChoice. And and and.

I think quite a few peeps have left TI over the last few months, due to all that went down. And the mass is going to move on to the next ISP that looks golden.

And the entire process repeats itself again. We're living in the freakin' ZA Internet Matrix, and we just keep popping blue/red pills.

I've no doubt that many would argue that there's hardly substance to my theory. But it's my little light at the end of the tunnel, and I'm clinging to it! ;)

I get the same stats whenever I run Speedtest etc.

My line has been very stable for several weeks now. But it's what I can do with that 'stability' that still irks me, at times. Updates/software downloads etc. fly along nicely - but streaming blows to buffering-kingdom-come. And I don't even get close to halfway on the TiTracker bar. I am not a heavy user at all, so it must simply be a blanket-approach to shaping (or whatever the correct term is).

Woke up to check on game downloads. Origin downloading @ 690KB/s - 840KB/s on 4m data | 8m line.

Simply loving it.

Agreed, except there isn't another ISP that looks golden at the moment... For the first time in years I am ISP'less.... Wife and Kids are not happy ;)

I feel your pain.
I remember how great SAOL uncapped was until they shaped the hell of the subscribers.
Telkom doing the same thing and the discount is gone.
Thank heavens im moving so i can at least get a new ISP when i get Telkom over to install a line(God Willing).
Im thinking Afrihost 75+75 gig capped will offer great performance,as their capped account is full speed here.

I've only been streaming YouTube, so can't really comment on any other streaming services, but YT is fine. 720p streams perfectly without any issues at all. The only problems I've been having is that I have to reboot my router around 2 or 3 times a day now when I start seeing speeds crawling. Never had to before, until about a month ago, and now it's a daily thing that I have to do.

Twitch buffering like mad. YouTube buffers occasionally at 720p. Seems to happen just about every evening. Happens on test accounts/Afrihost free 1GB. I think it's exchange congestion (99.9% sure).

If you upgrade any more peoples' lines, this exchange is going to eventually explode.

Good golly I cried a little inside :(

I'm starting to worry a bit now. I usually download NZBs and it was great with Telkom since they always run at speed. Last night however my torrents were flying at close to full speed but when downloading NZBs it was going at quarter speed. Had to change to my Webafrica account to get full speed.

Anyone in PE unable to browse the internet?
