Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

It's been treacle slow all weekend. :o

Been flying for ages my side. Streaming Air Crash Investigation episodes off YouTube between 480p and 720p on my 2mbps line. :D

Yesterday streamed TV episodes off Couchtuner and rugby together on my 2Mbps line. 200kbps rugby and not sure what Couchtuner eps run at.

I went overseas, so I switched the router off for 3 weeks. Came back 2 weeks ago and I have to keep rebooting my router every few hours because my connection just dies. Called in and they did the usual port reset etc. but still no dice. International speeds are pretty terrible, at best, but local gives me full speed for a few hours until my connection dies. Call Centre can't figure it out (surprise surprise). I messaged Charl (TelkomZA) in the hopes that he can sort it out. 4mb Uncapped.

I've not been able to get over 300 KB/s on my 4mb connection in almost a week now.

Things have been working quite well on my side 426kbps on NNTP downloads. HTTP varies, not sure if its due to Ti or the download server.

Browsing has been terrible this afternoon. Pages either time out or take up to 3 minutes to load  Speeds are fine according to Speedtest.net.

Browsing has been k@k slow all weekend! Feels like I'm surfing thru mud.
I logged a call with Telkom and got a call from a lady at 2nd Level Support.
She gave me a reference number lets see what comes of it...

What is the amount usually you can download on 10mbps before they start throttling/shaping/cutting your line? My Usage tracker doesn't have anything in it, not Green/Amber/Red.

As I noted in a previous reply, the MWEB peering link (managed by wholesale) is congesting, even though it they have upgraded it twice in two months.

We have a number of initiatives in progress to address the cause of the congestion returning, one of which should have gone live already, but was delayed by hardware failure the day we were to start moving traffic.

The replacement hardware arrives today, if all goes well we may be able to start moving traffic over the weekend.

This was like 2 weeks ago and I still haven't seen an improvement.

Have also done a bit more than usual outside of the 00:00-06:00 time. Not bad, I rarely do more than 120GB per month.

4mbs uncapped

I have scheduled my downloads for 00:00 to 06:00. I'm not sure if it counts towards the cumulative totals, for some reason my usage is a lot higher than normal. I downloaded about 5 gig between midnight and 6am, will check my usage tomorrow to see if it reflects in the daily usage.

EDIT: Looks like it does count towards the cumulative total in my case. I start the download at midnight(according to my PC clock), should I start the session at 00:30?

So between 00:00-06:00 I only got a paltry 250MB across 5 torrents (total 2.6GB) with plenty seeders, 2.6GB should have completed easily in that time.
