Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Connection also going down here aswell. Started after 8pm as per my logs too. Something happening at Telkom. :/
 
@ichigo - i haven't noticed any issues at those times as i have been browsing regularly and haven't noticed any performance drops (on 2Mbps) but it is the first time i have seen erratic connections on the authentication side, losing PPP connection nearly every 5 mins. Hopefully ranger shares some technical input (we love all those details :) ).

I should note that even though the account is in the red on the titracker, it is performing at full speed and also has the same effect even changing to another provider's account.

If i had to guess, ranger and team are doing some tweaks and by Monday things will stabilise :p.
 
Usually it is immediate. Did you make sure to tick the box? :p

Just tried again, getting Error 691 on PPPoE

There seems to be a problem with Telkom's RADIUS server. Nobody seems to be able to log into it to administer passwords/accounts.

Ah sorry then, it shouldn't be long until you are up and running on a new password because the issue i was having with authentication :wtf: since last night is over. Let us know when you come right though :)

I did. Got a call from someone at Telkom telling me that upgrading the router firmware will fix the problem. When I told him I'm on the latest firmware he just said he didn't know what the problem was. Tried another router and had the same issue, so that ruled out the router being the culprit. Been using a free WebAfrica 1GB account since this morning and haven't had to reboot the router at all today, so it's looks like an ISP thing from what I gather. Could be a KZN thing, I'm not sure. Giving it until the end of July and then I'm handing in my cancellation notice if this continues. I'll probably just get an Afrihost 100GB capped account until some decent uncapped offering surfaces.

Ok, strike my comment about it being an ISP thing. Getting the same story now with the WA capped account. Lasted longer than the Telkom account though. Exchange congestion maybe ?

Just watched F1 Hungary 3rd Practice for a whole hour and the stream didn't buffer once. No stuttering, no pauses, no buffering, nothing. Just streamed perfectly for a whole hour. Only realised at the end that I had been witnessing history in the making. Well, it's a first for me at any rate.

Someone, somewhere is doing something right.

Just a bit of FYI...
 
Been perfect the whole day today so far. Full line speed. Had the same last weekend as well, but come Monday morning it was back to being wonky. I'll drop Charl a line next week. He's the only guy that ever really knows what to do when weird problems like this arise.

Honestly TI has been absolutely perfect for me. Ive been streaming content off youtube every evening at 480p without any buffering during peak periods on a 2mbps line. Torrents fly as well (00h00 - 06h00).

I'm sure it's exchanges that are problem (if users aren't being throttled). My line is connected to one of the new MSAN VDSL exchanges which I guess must make a difference?
