Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Does anyone know what is up with Telkom pings to EU or is it just me? I can not login to my battle.net account or watch videos on youtube. International seems really slow. I have a 4Mb line and I in Durban. If I switch to my Afrhost account everything works fine.

Is anyone else having issues?

Welcome, your part of the 25%. Grab your tinfoil hat and enjoy the show :p

Reddit has just stopped working from time to time over the last two days. Change over to my Afrihost account and it works fine.

Please provide region, or even better a traceroute.

Note that there have been some global routing problems since Wednesday (due to the global routing table having exceeded 512k routes), so I don't know if this issue was related.

See e.g.: http://m.bbc.com/news/technology-28786954

Its intermittent, happens for an hour or so a few times a day but as soon as i change to Afrihost its perfect, change back to Telkom and it does it again. I will try and run a tracert the next time it happens, im in Durban. Im also experiencing latency on EU gaming servers like the others but i suppose that's probably IPC related?

Demand has grown quite rapidly in Durban, and there seems to currently not be sufficient IPC capacity there to satisfy peak demand (today it looks like from 16h00 to 22h00) on the home uncapped packages.

(This was however masked by some other problems we were experiencing on some equipment in the Durban site).

We requested upgrade proposals a few days ago, received and accepted them today. The commercial processes however take a few business days to complete, I think Tuesday afternoon would be the earliest we could expect the upgrades to be implemented.

No. We aren't congesting the IPC, so high priority traffic should not be impacted by latency.

What game?

Please note that Telkom Wholesale has informed us if planned maintenance (permanent fixes to replace the temporary splices that were done yesterday to fix transmission paths damaged by third parties) that may potentially impact up to half of our IPC capacity in Gauteng.

Maintenance starts about now and may only complete at 10h00 tomorrow.

Is only TI impacted or are other ISPs also affected?

Many services that rely on one of the few transmission paths between Johannesburg and Pretoria may be degraded (if they have capacity on other paths) or may be down (if they don't).

I don't know uf there are any other large ISPs with IPC links that terminate north of Midrsnd though.

Of course, the transmission teams will try and minimise the time there is impact and try and limit it to the early morning.

i have been having similar issues with telkom line (adsl landline 10mb/sec uncapped line) since thursday evening (14/08/2014), specifically when i try to log in to my blizzard eu gaming battle.net account to play any of my blizzard games like sc2, world of warcraft and diablo 3
it will not allow me to log in and i have checked with blizzard and the problem is not with them and i even checked by trying to log in with a different isp (my wireless mtn 3g doggle) and it was able to log in fine so it is telkom that is the problem here .
would appreciate any feedback we can get on this issue as i would be devastated if i cant play my games any more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that was the main reason for me getting this faster home line in the first place!!!!!

I use XMBC with plugins to watch tv series and with a Telkom uncapped account its impossible. Constant buffering makes it unwatchable

Crystalweb account works well, as does Openweb for this particular purpose

i made this tracert to the battle.net servers showing the disconnection due to increasing latancy from telkom....

this is the server site to connect to the eu region for diablo 3 and world of warcraft gaming servers

Battle.net, World of Warcraft and Hearthstone haven't been working since Thursday night for me on 4Mb uncapped here in Durban either. If I switch to a prepaid Axxess ADSL account it works fine. Connecting through a US VPN I have access to while logged into the Telkom ADSL account works fine too (though the ping is quite a bit higher) so it definitely seems to be a problem on Telkom Internet side.

People, just accept that Durban/KZN is fscked for now, it was bad but got worse on Thursday. Switch off your PC and go drink beer :D

GOOD TIMES!
