Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Even with the KZN IPC issues I was getting line speed on nzb's and torrents seemed to hover between 380-410kB/s.

Thanks for the feedback. And this is no matter how much you download in that time (00:00-07:00) right?

So is everyone getting more or less full line speeds during midnight surfer times?

Yep. And at pretty much any other time as well.

Thankfully I don't use or need my internet connection in the evenings. Too busy watching the previous nights' downloads, interfacing with my significant other and eating dinner. :)

I could get +-9gigs down between 00:00 and 06:00 on my 4Mb line. This usage doesn't count towards your usage bar so it doesn't matter how much you pull in that time.

I think MickeyD has done well over 400 gigs without even hitting the orange zone on 10Mb line tho (MickeyD feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

Is that what they calling it these days :p

Yep. For me, after 10pm is back to full line speed. It's just that 5 hour gap between 5pm and 10pm that's still an issue. In all fairness, it's been hard trying to find another ISP that can beat the deal I currently get for my 4mb Uncapped from TI, so I'm now seriously considering if it's even worth moving for the sake of being inconvenienced for those 5 hours. Pass the humble pie.

Luck of the draw. I monitored torrents last night and things were slowed. They took a long time to peak using Telkom and max speeds only appeared around 1:30 - 2AM. Prior to this I was getting less than 120Kb/s on well-seeded files. Speeds appear to have dropped later because my line-up never completed fully.

And you have read ranger's posts about CDN issues now impacting the Cape?

IMHO, no other ISP offers the same value for money as what Ti offers. My total bill on 4Mb uncapped (ADSL and voice included) was R635 with discounts applied. For an account, that for me at least, was pretty much unshaped except for torrents is a stellar deal. I could get my nzb's at line speed 24/7 and my streaming was just amaze-balls. Then the IPC issues reared their :(

Currently paying more for my line and data with my current ISP than what my entire Telkom bill was. If it wasn't for these issues I doubt I would have left Ti but I gave them long enough to come right. I don't regret switching ISP's as things are great with CW.

But who knows I might just come join you Ambrose for a slice of that humble pie :p

So can I just dial 10210 and ask them to put me on 10GB softcap and get an sms with login details??

Yes, of course. How do you know I'm in the Cape? :D

We can retest once it has been fixed. When will that be?
'twas elementary, my dear Watson! You're not from KZN else you'd be agreeing with ponder, Shane and the crew. The only other area with major issues is the Cape... :p

lol, not this little corner of the cape! Keep your broken internets to yourselves, we don't want them!

Humble pie doesn't taste to bad. Signed up for 10GB softcap. Will "test drive" at midnight and see whats what.

You be a Garden Router, not a Capie! :p

PS. From a Telkom perspective you are part of the Eastern Cape (Southern Region).

Still figuring out what What part does East london play in this My Speed test always do better from Cape Town .

It has to do with the routing of your data traffic and the congestion on the different links and at the testing points as well.

East London has several routes: primary route would be back to PE to get to Cape Town but it can also route via Queenstown to Bloemfontein/Joburg or it can go via Mthatha to Durban.
