Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

So is everyone getting more or less full line speeds during midnight surfer times?

Nope. Up until the end of August I could almost consistently download 4 to 4.5 gig between midnight and 6am. Since the 1st of this month, I haven't once been able to get more than 3 gig something downloaded between midnight and 7am. So even though there's an extra free hour, I can now download less in 7 hours than I could before in 6 hours.. Speeds are normal after 7am, but where NightSurfer speeds were consistent before, it sometimes dips down to 25% of line speed now. Not sure why but it was fine until the end of last month.

It has to do with the routing of your data traffic and the congestion on the different links and at the testing points as well.

East London has several routes: primary route would be back to PE to get to Cape Town but it can also route via Queenstown to Bloemfontein/Joburg or it can go via Mthatha to Durban.

Thanks
That has helped me a lot ,,
I have always had better speed tests on CT

Not Having the Durban or Cape Town problens or Bush Fires .
the only problem I have is TRYING to explain to a 17year old I DONT have to stop the downloadz coz I am not doing anything .
XBOX Live loves internets . a Few times He has told me But comming on this site I always found lots of people with Telkom problems ,,

WELKOM BACK humblepies:)

I'm not sure why, but everything went tits up tonight.

Ping all over the place, speeds on speedtest lowest ever.

Maxing at .27Mb/s browsing.

Time for a DPSU & POP diagram? :D

Seems fine on my side. I'm using a softcap account though.

Join the club and get in line. It just gets worse with time. I'm so fed up I've stopped doing my daily tests for the TI Durban IPC faults thread as it's just wasting my bandwidth and contributing to my usage graph at the end of the day!

How do you like them rotten apples?

I've had enough. If anybody has the name, phone numbers & email address of the TI executive please PM me

My 4MB line is operating like a 384 line, moved onto my capped account, how many months of poor service has it been now?

Good question, it's probably three months now. I need to search this thread for when I first reported slow browsing issues as this is when all this kuk started. It's schocking to have an issue for so long.

Hmm, weird, the IPCs in Durban didn't congest tonight like last night, so I don't know why your latency would be so high.

IPC upgrades for Durban were ordered and should be provisioned this week.

Yes, of course. How do you know I'm in the Cape? :D

We can retest once it has been fixed. When will that be?

Load-balancing problems caused by the onboarding of a CDN in Cape Town were fixed tonight at 21h15.

The router vendor's support staff told us repeatedly everything was working as intended, but this evening we (without any help from the vendor) came up with a theory about what was causing the problem, proved it, and then the fix was relatively easy. The IPCs stopped congesting within a minute after completing the fix, and have been fine since, whereas last night the congestion died off at 22h20.

Well we can browse again without swapping ISP.

It's nearly 1AM and P2P is badly throttled. I tried the most seeded torrent and it run at best 50% of line speed and at worst, 40%.

If I open more than one, they never get higher than 20 kb/s.

What's the reason for this?

Tried to play some Diablo tonight , constant 500+ ping to EU servers. Service has been all round slow and spotty recently though, whats going on ?

Should be better tonight in Cape and KZN than last night, and no different in Gauteng than before. Traceroute?

I think I just got a gig of Microsoft updates, those things must kill the network on Wednesdays
