Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Should be better tonight in Cape and KZN than last night, and no different in Gauteng than before. Traceroute?
It was better. I hope it wasn't simply transferring goodness from KZN.

Am I right in thinking there's a lot of tinkering going on? Does this contribute to instability, especially the dreaded (and welcomed) upgrades.

Checked at http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ - 17 sessions yesterday and 44 so far today with all the disconnections..

We only ever disconnect users without them initiating it (e.g. I think on password change you can choose to disconnect existing sessions) if/when they cancel, or if the customer was allowed onto the network due to a suspected system problem (to reconnect them correctly, at slow intervals). As far as I know, we don't disconnect for an upgrade or downgrade done correctly by the agent.

So, this is either a line problem (modem losing sync) or the DSLAM is up and down all the time.

Please check your line stats, I don't think this issue is relevant to this thread ...

Couldn't use the internet at all last night, and still so this morning. Called in, got a port reset, but still no go.

I don't think that was us. Please check with e.g. SAIX guest account. Let me know if you need instructions/hints.

Still doing this , even this morning. 2nd hop times out to every address though , what causes this ?

Is this good or bad? :-

Downstream SNR Margin (dB): 196
Upstream SNR Margin (dB): 196
Downstream Attenuation (dB): 265

Pretty good. Line speed?

Attenuation Rates:

20bB. and below = Outstanding
20dB-30dB. = Excellent
30dB-40dB. = Very Good
40dB-50dB. = Good
50dB-60dB. = Poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB. and above = Bad and will experience connectivity issues

For S/N Margin Readings:

6bB. or below = Bad and will experience no line synchronisation or intermittent synchronisation problems.
7dB-10dB. = Fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions.
11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no synchronisation problems
20dB-28dB. = Excellent
29dB. or above = Outstanding

2mbps line.

You should get 4 Mbps no problem.

Hopefully I will be able to soon. Wanted to upgrade end of last month but when I asked the call center to check, they said the area only supports 2mbps at the moment  They have plans to upgrade the area to 10mpbs but couldn't say when.

Nah, started yesterday, late afternoon. Checked with a few mates from different parts of Durban, and they all had problems getting online yesterday.

A minor change was implemented between 17h15 and 17h45 to allow more traffic to IPC following the completion of the IPC upgrade. If the problem started after 17h15, there could be some issue that crept in but wasn't noticed during post-implementation checks. High level checks (traffic volumes etc.) for the site all look good.

If it was before 17h15, it wasn't us ...

I got home at 5pm and logged on around then, so that 15 minute window probably means it wasn't anything you guys did :)

Looking good here after a long time for this part of the evening, ranger :)
