Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

iOS updates seem to have used mote bandwidth last night than Wednesday night, with software updates peaking at 30% of traffic, where on Tuesday software updates peaked at 10% of traffic.

We had ordered additional IPC links for Cape Town amd Gauteng some time back intending them to be operational before the iOS8 release. The transmission for those links should be completed today, but it might take a bit longer until the IPC capacity can be provisioned, so probably not in time to alleviate the problems cause by iOS8.

Of course, this is a perfect use case for NightSurfer, especially for the guys on capped packages, but it seems too few of the Apple users have figured it out ...

The underlying problem is clearly too little bandwidth.

Would have been hard to schedule the ios8 update at 00:00 at night because you need to actually click the update button then it starts downloading. So I guess it was not worth the efford. I mean the softcap accounts got way more data now and they are cheap in the do bundle so I think people just updated because they got plenty of data. Guess that was bad news for you guys.

!@#$%^&*()!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????? ....ING iOS people!

Try one of the free accounts. It's only Telkom that's affected.

Which streaming service were you using?

I just checked mine on T20 cricket, Golf, Darts, Water polo and horse racing and it hardly buffered.

Supersport, wiziwig, vipbox asia and a couple of others. Normally fine for me on all those (except supersport). Just hope the race on sunday is OK.

Did not check SS.

Have now opened the T20 stream... just in time to see the Cobras concede another boundary. And then the buffering started.

Supersport now dead but wiziwig eu working perfectly.

Pretty much dead here. Was a mission just posting this comment. Is the honeymoon over ?

Telkom's sales division have no clue what they are doing.
My home line has been on a 12 month contract where I was given 25% discount for taking the contract option.

I got a call two weeks ago on Friday in the evening by a sales rep who wanted to upgrade us to 10Mbps uncapped (We're on 4Mbps home uncapped). He offered us a package for R999. I wasn't happy considering my home uncapped account came to considerably less... after discount I'm paying around R400 all in (except for analog line rental). I told him and asked what the capped options cost. He told me about a 10Mbps 50Gb bundle for R584pm. Apparently they do the night surf thing on it where traffic between 11pm and 7am is free. I liked that so I said I'd be happy to go with that. After the details were sorted, he told me that I'd receive an SMS in the next 48 working hours to confirm it was done and I'd just have to turn the modem off and on.

3 working days later still nothing. I phoned 4 days later (Wednesday) and was told it's in the system and would happen before Friday. By Friday the line had been upgraded as my speedtest confirmed but when I logged into the online usage thing, it said I was still on home uncapped.

My bill arrived today and I'm being billed for 'home uncapped' along with 'DSL fastest bundle'. Not only that, but I was charged R44 for 'contract forfeiture' - 10 / 12 months. Also, a new contract option appears on the bill saying 1 of 24 months... so they have stuck me on a 24 month contract without discussing that with me.

It's this kind of sneakiness that we hate telkom for. Every now and then they remind me why I should never fall for their offerings. Oh, and did I mention they snuk call catcher and weekender on to the line? I don't recall ever ordering either!

Time to call them and demand they produce proof of order.

Wow, that is really not on. Lay a complaint. Did you get a reference number ? They should be able to pull the call recording and get it straightened out for you. Sadly, Telkom's sales reps/call centre people really are quite terrible most of the time. There are some good people there, but the majority are really not good at their job.

Can't really run a speedtest either. This is as far as I got. Didn't even complete. Never even got to the upload test.

4Mbps Uncapped

Absolutely borked this morning, and the last few days - down in Paarl. Afrihost unaffected. What gives?
