Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

I think at this stage it would be fair to conclude that all is not well with Telkom Internet, much like another well known South African parastatal...

Perhaps Telkom should initiate "bandwidth-shedding". This way, everyone with TI might have some form of working internet, some of the time.

It's working for me but I don't game or stream TV, moving 400GB/mth on 10MB uncapped.

No problems with international speed or sites here in PE.

During Night Surfer times, I'm also fine and still manage to get what I need, but daytime and more specifically afternoons and evenings are ranging from dreadful to worse than dreadful for me this month. That goes for anything that would require international bandwidth.

That's IPC, which includes all ISPs not only TI.

Granted.

Perhaps I should have said: "This is why it seems we're ALL complaining here on MYBB about ALL Isp's ALL the time!"

TI is not alone, but Afrihost is working 100% for me at the moment.

I finally got through to telkom on 10210 this morning and cancelled my data product. January 10 is D-Day.

Is there a problem with TI the last couple of days? Half the sites I try to load come back with a "Server not found" error in the browser - local and international sites like MSN, Mozilla, DSTV are just a few. When I reset the router, the pages load. Browsing is also very slow. Speedtest shows everything's fine, but it takes 30 seconds to load a page on a lot of sites that usually load quickly. Am on 2mb uncapped.

Try clearing your dns cache: Start - Run - ipconfig /flushdns - <enter>

Everything is just timing out this morning, had to switch over to my backup account

Patch Tuesday. We delivered a *lot* of Windows updates between abput 7h30 and 10h00. Some work we have done to change how Windows Updates are delivered paid off in one way, but we may have to do a bit more tuning to prevent the IPC from congesting.

The load shedding is making it a bit more difficult to understand true demand, and changing usage patterns (more demand in the week because people didn't get to every thing on the weekend).

anyone having issues with TI in the North of Guateng. see my tracert below and ping to telkom.co.za

Tracing route to telkom.co.za [196.43.22.222]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.0.0.2
2 1456 ms 1460 ms 1676 ms 105.224.40.1
3 1545 ms 1373 ms 1441 ms ipc-1-up.north.dsl.telkomsa.net [105.224.0.6]
4 1390 ms 1346 ms 1374 ms ipc-aggr-1.north.telkomsa.net [105.224.0.13]

Did you rule out dslam congestion at the time? I don't think we congested any of the IPC links in the north last night.

Well I've decided enough is enough. This uncapped story is just not working for me. Having tested over the last few months with TI uncapped 4 mb, six different TI capped accounts, and an Afrihost capped account all on my 10 mb line, I've come to the conclusion that TI just isn't cutting the mustard any more.

When we hit capacity planning thresholds, we requested additional 10Gbps circuits for the Cape Town site. I think that was in August (will have to check). It took weeks to get proposals, which we accepted within 2 days, then after the orders had been processed (another week), it took Wholesale 6 weeks to source transmission cards and about another 2 weeks to get the circuits condigured and soak tested. The circuits went live about 2 weeks ago, and we are still waiting for the redistribution of the existing IPC capacity to be fully completed, which must be done before we can get a proposal for upgrading the IPC capacity.

The previous occasions we did this exercise, we completed the whole thing in 2 months from dtart to finish.

We are doing as much as we can to try and relieve problems in the Cape Town site (such as reallocating some of the existing IPC capacity from Durban and Gauteng to Cape Town). Unfortunately the Wholesale network freeze starts at the end of the week, so the actual upgrades that we want to order will have to wait for Jan for implementation :-(.

Is that why my streaming sucks and I now get 0kb/s for torrents during the day? :D

It shouldn't be ... but there are some international issues we need to look into ... which we have poor visibility of as management of international capacity is with Wholesale. We have enough unternational capacity from them, but we are seeing some symptoms of problems for the past few days. Will try and dig deeper tomorrow.

Is anyone experiencing latency issues? My ping in games is going anywhere from 230-600ms and streaming Youtube, Iplayer etc is stuttering all the time.
I would call Telkom directly but they wont talk to me as I am not named on the account even though we went physically into Hatfield outlet and gave them proof of residence and I.D.

Ranger, thanks for feedback of which I understand very little.
How's the 'digging' going?

International is definitely not klopdisselboom.
