Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Anyone having Authentication issues?

Yeah, I can't connect to the net at all. In the PE / CPT area. Router's status is on "connecting". Been like this for a few hours :/

I dont think there's an issue my side. Guess no midnight surfer today.

So my TI has been acting up since last week. Actually, since November. Have service reference numbers, some closed by Telkom and some still open regarding the issue. Since January, every night, around 8PM, streaming grinds to a halt. As expected, it happened again last night. After the 4th buffering, I switched over to the free 1GB from Afrihost I registered for yesterday. The 1GB got used up without a hitch. Not once did it buffer. When I got the 99.98% warning email, I switched back to TI and had to endure the buffering till I went to sleep.

Beginning of next month I will be joining the Afrihost family. Sorry TI, I am paying other service providers for a service, but can not make use of it on your network.

I gave you feedback on this already, but it takes a few days to get IPC capacity changes made.

BTW., Afrihost users were complaining for months about similar problems ...

The most common vause of authenticaion failures is when the DSLAM backaul is down due to a fibre break. The modem will have sync, but the PPP packets don't get to the ESR.

In this case, no account (not even guest@telkomadsl) will authenticate.

God things are so sloooooow
The situation has improved markedly here in PE since Monday when TI allocated some of the norths IPC capacity to the southern region according to one of rangers posts (can't find it atm).

Let's hope provisioning of the promised additional IPC capacity goes through soon.

Youtube sticking and caching on 240p :(
Speedtest, tracerts all fine, just slow

My son just came to ask me to pause my downloads ,he cant watch youtube on he xbox. Nodownloads and wasnot even on the net
Ran a speed test ,was ok,

Speedtest is not a true reflection of your data throughput to services. All ips's priorities speedtest traffic/servers. So in other words speed tests will go as fast as your line can handle but Http, https, streaming and other protocols however are dynamically shaped.

A good test to do is go to speedtest.net but choose a different server instead of it auto detect based on best ping.

It sounds like they are robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Ranger my lad, what have you done? :) This last week my Diablo3 gaming has gone for a ball of chalk. Its extremely laggy and really difficult to play or enjoy. At first I thought it might be my line, so I jumped over to the Afrihost free 1Gig that I have, and the game runs nice and smooth, so been using that to game the last couple of days. Is there anyway that you can have a look see if there something that may have changed that could be causing this. I've been running nice and smooth on TI for a nice period of time till the last week or so. In JHB area.

If it means ruining things for the lads in PE and Cape Town go for it, no skin off my nose. /joke

Telkom Smarthome Premium 10meg line. Speedtest OK at 8500kbps (http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2803381721.png)
P2P pathetically slow. Ubuntu as a test is going to take 5 days to download at 3kB/s. Vox running at about 650 kB/sec on same test.
This is the speed on the 50 GB I am paying for each month. (Not the unlimited night surfer)
I would appreciate any ideas or advice.
Mabe this is what Ranger meant in his post #4914 with less P2Pfor Gauteng.
Here was me thinking Bryanston was one of the best adsl areas in the country. I would hate to see the worst.

So I wasn't alone. I had the same problem and cancelled my contract. P2P only started working by 1am, and even then it was at a fraction of my line speed, P2P cut off again at exactly 7am.

As stated before, TI grinds to a halt around 20:15 every night when streaming. I have now used Afrihost and MWEB trial packages when this happens, and streaming does not buffer on any of those. I have 2 more trial packages I will use to compare, but it seems Telkom does not want people to make use of their services. I have had numerous calls from Telkom employees regarding my issue. Every time I have to explain the problem from scratch, only to be told they can not help, but they will refer me to someone else.

I can not go on paying for a product and the product is useless when I need it.

Same exact experience. P2P download rate progressively increased from close to zero at midnight up to a peak of about 850kB/s at 04:00am. Constant good speed from then until at 07:00am it hit a brick wall. From 850kB/s down to 3kB/s.

Changed to Vox. Immediate back to 1000+ kB/s. (on 10meg line)

Mine was fine (no buffering) until 20:20, then streaming ground to a halt. Switch over to a competitor's free package and all is fine????

Same issue, netflix/hulu is dead after 20:00 at night... (JHB btw) I think its time we find out what's really happing here Telkom, please you owe us that much.
