Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Could someone take a look at this and please identify a possible problem for me? My connection is very unstable. Sometimes I have very low latency and everything is great and then an hour later the internet is unusable. ISP- Telkom 4mb uncapped.

Either line quality or more likely dslam congestion. You may want to use winmtr instead, the high variability all over your traceroute is probably due to dslam congestion varting over the time of the traceroute. mtr/winmtr will ping each hop simultaneously a number of times so you get a more accurate reflection.

Thanks Ranger, I reported a fault previously that was just mysteriously cancelled. I then reported again on Friday with some guy confirming they'll come around Sunday or Monday. My connection was down for a few hours today and once it reconnected this is what I am now getting (unsuccessfully tried winmtr):

I can't complain because everything is working 100% (for now) but what's that 2nd hop issue?

me 4Mbps
you 10Mbps
:p

PS. has your services stabilised since the last intervention?
On the whole - had a few glitches but nothing major. Speeds have been fairly constant.

Not sure when/how I managed to upload 10gb though… going to have to look into that.

If your line stats are ok, then a technician can do nothing for you. Make it clear that the problem is (was?) dslam congestion.

The 2nd hop issue seems to have arisen on dslams migrated recently to BNGs, which as I understand is only done on ME backhaul, which should mean that dslam congestion should be unlikely.

Provide the first 3 octets of your current IP address, or the gateway IP on your router's wan connection, or if you can do a revesrse dns lookop, do it on the gateway IP of your router's wan connection, and we cam confirm if you were migrated (from wbs-ip-esr-4 feom your previous traceroute).

Then you should cancel your fault as resolved by dslam upgrade.

Reverse DNS using mxtoolbox -

I've just seen that fault was closed. Must have migrated yesterday. Thanks Ranger.

Another 300mb overnight…

Hi everyone,

I am currently on uncapped, 4MB, paying about R760 a month.
I am considering changing to do Premium Plus, which is also about R760, but with a 10MB line, only 50GB of data, but uncapped during the night.

Due to the failr usage policy, i schedule my downloads overnight anyways...(i use NZBS).

Is it worth it to change?
is there any catch?
will i get full speed, between midnight and 7?
Thanks,
Bar1.

As long as your day time use remains within 50GB then yes, it is worth changing. Night Surfer will FLY !!!!!

PS. If you exceed 50GB you can also Top Up and full speed will be restored.
