Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Had around 8 files in queue (from 2am) - all done.
My UK soaps only ran properly after 7am on TI when the 225kB/s limiter kicked in on my torrent client. They're usually finished by 2am (session starts at 23:45) on my backup ISP accounts before I switch to TI at 3am (535kB/s limit active during night surfer).

McSon was on some DoTA league game so I only started the DLs at 2am.

Should have checked my logs before posting :o

... seems there was maintenance or something at my exchange during the wee hours, disconnects for Africa which cleared around 06:30.

Hey guys, just want to get an overall census on how uncapped is atm, what usage can be expected on a 4mb line? there seemed to be a problem with Youtube a few days ago, has that been sorted out? Also I see "nightsurfer" term being used, could someone help clarify this for me? :) thanks in advance

Night surfer = from 00h00 to 07h00. The data you consume does not count towards your usage and is generally not shaped or throttled by the service provider.

I schedule most of my downloads for this slot.

Usage on my 4Mbps account? Between 300-320GB per month.

Thank You MickeyD, appreciate it :) my highest usage was just over half of that, so I should be fine especially if I schedule my downloads for that "night surfer" period and streaming seems to be good on Telkom.

Also guys, how is Xbox Live gaming on Telkom? Telkom uncapped seems to be doing much better a few years down the line.

What is the shaping/throttling policy on home and business uncapped accounts? Looking at going for a 4mb.

Yeah you will be fine, I've done about 200GB on a 2Mb/s package a few times before.

I cant talk about Xbox live gaming but i do normal pc gaming on my account and it works perfectly.

That was specific to the Eastern region (e.g. Durban) due to a fibre that was cut, and resolved a bit later the same day. Other failures of this link have had no noticeable impact.

Ahh I see, so YT should be working 100% thanks Ranger.

I can confirm this, I was one of those that 'biatched' when it happened and the issue was resolved not long afterwards. It's all good now.

Internet is completely ****ed.

Can't get more than 20kb/s on an http download.
