Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Damn, wish mine would jump to 20mbps and then disappear into the void as far as Telkom is concerned ... - ... tho with my luck I think that is a massive ask ...

Hi

Does anyone from Telkom respond to this thread? My internet connection is constantly dropping and re-connecting. I have no idea why this is happening? Any else experiencing this in Durban area?

My internet was working fine. It just started in the afternoon.

Been playing with Openelec/OSMC - weird setting it up. But it has good promise - must just figure out how to install the addons/plugins and my ADSL line must just play ball and it could be really nice. Have not been able to stream properly the weekend. Not using my browser either.

What is the upload speeds on 8 and 10 MB ADSL respectively?
IIRC when I was stuck on 8mbps due to attainable sync (10MB Uncapped) I was only getting 0.5mbps. When my exchange was upgraded and I could sync at 10mbps it became 1.0mbps.

International broken, Afrihost running fine.

SAIX, our upstream provider, experienced difficulties as per reference NN0044129. They are still busy investigating the root cause. Customers would have experienced International connectivity issues.

Is this a localized problem as I haven't experienced any problems here in PE plus BBC iPlayer radio has been streaming all day?

Things have been frustratingly erratic the last few days. My current download is topping out at 40K.

Streaming is a roller coaster lucky packet recently - have not downloaded any torrents last 3 weeks - experience tho says that streaming can be totally buggered but torrents will run just fine.

Now we got Showmax, and all the other local stream offerings for VOD ... , and streaming is buggered more often than not ... :(

If streaming does not work, then supporting these local efforts is pointless ...

Off topic but have you activated the Prioritisation option on TI Tracker that was introduced recently (ranger discussed it about 6 weeks ago)?

What does it do?

Supposedly prioritises streaming protocols over other traffic, can't comment on it's efficacy as I already use traffic shaping on my IPCop firewalls.

Thanks - I tried searching for rangers post but the results only reveal the most recent 100. :o

I'll leave it as is - if it ain't broke…

Still off Topic:

Used to use Ip-Cop then the box died, and Ip-Cop seemed yo have died - tried Smoothwall - then got a MikroTik RB750GL ...

Then got exchange problems that took forever to fix up, and as long as I was using a MikroTik router Telkom techies insisted problem was with my router - put MikroTik in Cupboard put Telkom router in and 6 weeks later they fixed a problem at exchange - never got around to getting the MikroTik out of the Cupboard again - I should - really ...

Slow here as well, but still enough **** going down to forgo myself the luxury of looking.

Many thanks - will look when the opportunity presents itself.

Internet is running beautifully this evening. I'll give it another hour before it all goes to schit.
