Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Not the thread for LTE

But going at a snails pace here on my dsl

In the end, LTE,DSL,FIBRE, etc, all end up using the same International bandwidth. Its all the same junk, just different means and fees to 'access' it.

Seems i need to explain telkom every couple of months.

Telkom has network congestion. The only way they handle it, is by migrating the issue to different users, when they complain about speeds and so on,they move the congestion to a different account.

Not much you can do but complain and wait, while other telkom users have perfect internet.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading not so long ago that Telkom was upping their fair use policy quite generously as of this month but I can't seem to find the thread. We had Open Serve out today to sort out a line fault (frequent disconnects and not syncing at the right speed) which they have, but we're now experiencing super slow speeds. According to the Open Serve dude we're capped for the rest of the month. I can't be sure but I kind of doubt we've come close to the 900gb FUP that I seem to remember reading about. Can someone clarify that I wasn't having a flashback and imagined the 900gb FUP and is anyone else experiencing ridiculously slow speeds with Telkom ISP atm?

Major Telkom Internet and mobile outage in Centurion

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/cell...-internet-and-mobile-outage-in-centurion.html

Telkom has detected a major fibre break in Centurion, the company told Jacaranda News.

The issue has reportedly caused significant communication disruptions in the area, with customers complaining of service outages.

Customers complained of prepaid and contract mobile data being offline since early Thursday morning.

The fibre break is impacting Telkom Internet and mobile data customers, resulting in slow Internet browsing, said Telkom.

Telkom said its engineers are on site to repair the break in its fibre cable.

Just assume anything said by most of the ISPs and telkom to be complete hogwash, it normally is. They calling the issue right now with their network, a 'fibre' issue, its not a fibre issue. Its throttled international bandwidth on large scale thinking people will not notice, and they dont. They believe silly articles like the word of god,so telkom could say anything.

Why do you think Telkom put out a press notification proactively (e.g. before MyBroadband managed to post some article where they asked Telkom about complaints, waited 1 hour, and claimed "Telkom did not respond in time")?

What medium do you think is used to provide international bandwidth? CAT6? LTE? DSL?

Fibre cuts are quite common (usually multiple per week). You only feel or hear about the cases where multiple paths are affected or where there are insufficient paths to redundantly carry all the capacity at all times, but unfortunately that does happen (for reasons that could potentially be avoided, but Telkom retail isn't being allowed to pursue those).

Can anyone advise if Telkom fibre covers first 8m or 10m trench.

I read 10 but now see reference to 8m. Also cost per m cheaper now.

anyone in kloof dbn area that know what is going on with exchange? i've been down since yesterday morning around 6am

EDIT: was infact corner box without power :D back up and running
