Telkom Internet Softcap Feedback

Ohh I am not able to do that because the checker says my area is max 10Mbps but I'm on the 20Mbps profile..... Anyways that is shocking though. I hope you do not lose the discount once you change the size of the softcap but I think you might because you will be paying for it separately then.... Sigh

I'm going to phone in the morning to see what they say. I'm hoping for a price of about R700 to R750

Please do keep me updated, 20Mbps and 100GB softcap is perfect for what I need, if anything close to R800 and I will which in a heartbeat.

Also does anyone know what speeds to expect on a 20Mbps line when hitting the softcap?

So I phoned about 30min ago and confirmed that Telkom packages don't make any sense.

Upgrading from 50gb to 100gb would mean nodo bundle discount and you will end off paying over R1000 for the package. It just does not make ANY sense because the Do Elite Plus is 40Mbps line and 100gb softcap for less than R1000 but they don't want to give that to me because my area does not support 40Mbps.....

What logic is that.

It's Telkom you are dealing here, logic does not apply.

You are better off keeping your existing bundle and adding a 50GB topup for R269 bringing your total to R870.

So I decided that I would part ways with Telkom Softcap due to the ridiculous way their Do Bundles are done.

Do Elite with 50GB softcap AND 20Mbps line is just R601 a month.
Do Elite plus with 100GB softcap AND 40Mbps VDSL line is just R979 a month.

Upgrading my 50GB softcap from 50GB to 100GB softcap and keeping the 20Mbps line is R1065 a month.

I just don't understand why I just don't. I thought Telkom would not mind get say a extra R150 a month from a client and they stay on the same line. I can't get the Do Elite plus bundle because my area does not have VDSL so basically I am forced to pay R464 extra a month should I want to move to 100GB softcap.....

I have a stable line with a decent sync rate. I will cancel the softcap and move my line to axxess and then just stick with the Vox fatpipe 50GB account and uncapped bolt on for R228. It would cost me only R658 a month for that combo but would mean I need to pay 3 seperate service providers each month. Telkom R187 for analogue + Axxess R425 for 20Mbps adsline + Vox R228 for the data.

Something I was hoping to avoid by just getting 100GB softcap + 20Mbps adsl line rental from Telkom @ a decent price.

or is the site outdated?

I had my bolt on since launch back in 2012. I signed up for the Fatpipe on launch and they moved my bolt on to my fatpipe no problem. They stopped fatpipe + bolt on a month or two after that so I'm one of the lucky ones.

I guess I will just stay on that because its the best deal that was ever available.

I'm very confused now. I'm in two minds whether to stay with Vox or Telkom Softcap. Vox has been giving me some problems lately but ISP's have their moments but Telkom softcap is flawless since I got it with nice low and stable ping in League of Legends where Vox was struggling the last week.

Nice and blazing fast internet Today. I also really like the DBN IPC as not many other ISP's have IPC in KZN and usually route KZN via JHB.

Telkom Softcap Richards Bay > Durban 10msms. So that means 28ms to JHB and 50ms to CPT. Pretty cool.

As noted in the uncapped thread, and by ponder above, if you bought 50GB topup (currently R269), your total for 20Mbps+100GB (including unlimited NightSurfer etc.) would be R870, R109 less than the 40Mbps+100GB bundle, and unused topup would rollover to the next month (so could work out to less than R870, depending how much of the topup you use on average).

How do I go about ordering the 20Mbps bundle and adding another 50GB, do I do two separate purchases or will I have the option somewhere after ordering the bundle to add another 50GB?

BTW., I received a mail indicating that the 40Mbps+100GB bundle price is being reduced due to Wholesale VDSL reductions, and will now be cheaper than the 20Mbps+50GB bundle+50GB topup.

I believe emails to subscribers are going out now or soon.

Expect a new 'capped ADSL comparison' article on MyBroadband on Monday :-p

You would need to do a credit card topup (I've seen something about a topup on your account, but can't check if it is in as my personal account is an uncapped account) every month or two.

But, see my post above ...

It's you and me 40Mbps just give me one month to cancel current ISP.

Hmm, that 40Mbit softcap bundle looks tempting. Think I may just jump ship.

Yeah the 40Mbps bundle does look impressive. Sadly no such love for 20Mbps users. The bundle remains unchanged. Would have been nice to see something for the more heavy data users.

Do Elite is great but it needs like a boost. Like 20Mbps + 100GB for like R705. That would be a awesome bundle. Do Elite and then Do elite extra or something like that.

I take it you're not impressed by the credit card topup option of R870 for 20Mbps + 100GB

No not AT ALL. Why you may ask is because the new VDSL prices puts the Do Elite plus @ R839 for 100GB softcap and 40Mbps VDSL. How can I be happy to pay R870 for 20Mbps and 100GB softcap?

Oh shoot - I was using the old prices for VDSL, not the new prices. You're right.
