Telkom Internet Softcap Feedback

I'm super frustrated with the Telkom account ATM. It performs very well but the only game I play League of Legends is lagging on a Telkom account. If this continues I actually might just be cancelling and going with another ISP. I've been using Openweb free 1Gb and ITNT 5Gb account and they are flawless well because its IS based accounts. I expect it from a IS account.

Afrihost account is also not bad.

Have you had any feedback from ranger wrt this issue?

I thought night surfer data doesn't count towards the cap until Telkom accused me of using 217GB on my 50GB account. Actual usage as per daily usage email and UT showed 29.5GB (59%) of 50GB used.

Ranger hasn't got back to me regarding the Battle.net data and it's still coming off my main cap. Anyone else I can talk to? I would like to get my bandwidth back that was used erroneously.

Upgraded from 2MB to 4MB. What a POS. During normal hours (7-midnight) I frequently get pages timing out and very slow browsing.

During nightsurfer, I think the downloads only really start touching line speed at about 2AM-3AM.

Telkom were supposed to move me from 4mbps uncapped to 10mbps 50gb softcap. After 5 days on 10mbps the usage tracker still said it's not applicable to me on an uncapped package. Phoned 10210 and was told I was on the 10mbps uncapped package. I gave up trying to get on the 10mbps 50gb softcap and told them I'd like to downgrade to 4mbps uncapped again. Geez, don't have time to waste with nonsense, next time they phone with offers I tell them to f off.

Just tell them you need to change it to the 50Gb softcap account that is it. It should be instant.

Looks like I will be parting ways with Telkom. They sent me a bill shocker of R1800 for this month.

They are charging me contracts fees because of the 12 months 25% discount. Then they removed the do bundle discount because of that. So I'm now paying for the line and data separately but getting 25% discount but being charged R100 dsl contract fee so they give a discount then take it away with a stupid contract fee.....

They charged me 2 times for 50GB softcap. I went to Telkom store and they were shocked at the billing and just logged disputes for me. If the disputes does not pan out then what? 10210 billing department are also very clueless and say the amount is correct.

If that was not the nail in the coffin the damn lag in LoL is just too bad and I can't handle it anymore. I'm just thinking of transferring my line to Vox and even when Telkom fixes their account so it does not lag it will still be cheaper to have it unbundled.

Vox 20Mbps line rental = R342
50Gb softcap standalone = R269

Is a total of R611

Do Elite which is 20Mbps line + 50GB softcap goes for R601 IF they don't decide to remoive the do discount on the invoice like they did this month for me.

Does Telkom kill torrents completely on these accounts?

I am trying to download the new Cloudy G3 ROM and it's going at less than 1KB/sec, switch on a VPN and the speed instantly shot to over 1MB/sec.

I have not experienced p2p being shaped or cut on the softcap account but I did not test tonight.

I'm not at all satisfied with Telkom anymore. League of Legends gaming is impossible with the account.

The just decided to kill my do broadband discount when last month I got both the 25% discou8nt and do broadband discount. Accounts say the do broadband discount is no longer available... What rubbish is that? When I asked why I'm not paying R601 for my bundle then she said look I'm getting the 25% discount. When I told her that is for the 12 month line contract she looked confused and said she does not know what I'm trying to ask for here.

I took my statements and walked out of the store. It's hard to deal with first line people that don't know squat about Telkom operations and accounts.....

Looks like there is only 1 really good backbone with no issues and that is IS. If you get a good reseller like what ITNT was with the R1 per gig price then you are on the best account. Pity they killed that.... Lucky for me being in Durban Vox is still the best. Openweb capped accounts are the second best followed by Afrihost and then Telkom.

I have not tried Cybersmart yet. Maybe I should

Yes. In fact, more or less ALL traffic is shaped to s h I t from 7AM till midnight. If you want to download torrents schedule it for night surfer time. And even then it only really starts getting going at about 1AM.

Going to be doing some testing but after upgrading today first to 10Mbps and then > upto 20Mbps , am very satisfied :D. Will be moving my line to another provider however doesn't mean i don't want to enjoy showing some performance :p on the softcap accounts unless something persuades me to stay  [PSN downloads....hmm]

Multithreaded download from a seedbox.

ADSL upto 20Mbps Download 17-11-14.png

Just for reference - ADSL Router stats

Downstream Line Rate (Kbps): 16946
Upstream Line Rate (Kbps): 1019

DS - 3.2dB stable under normal conditions but lets see busy time this evening ;)

About 2.5KM from the exchange.

Edit: almost forgot [ha] , big thanks to cavedog for all the advice. :o

Nice so you gained like 2Mbps by dropping the SNR down. Pretty cool hey.

Yip, must trace where possible interference is causing it to drop though sometimes  so dropped sync abit :). <3 SNR tweaking.

Lets see what performance is like with some ArcheAge gaming later tonight, hoping it is better than uncapped when i was on two nights ago.

If it drops you might need to sacrifice some speed for stability and increase the SNR a bit.

Hi DrJohnZoidberg,

Did you managed to resolve this issue. I have the same issue that started yesterday whereby my PSN downloads make use of my normal 50gb cap instead of the Do Gaming addon.

Can you point me in the right direction for assistance because I've tried the 10210 and they had no idea what I was talking about.
