torrents @ 2.3KBps (SAB Paused)......

That seems to be the way TI roles. Sadly my torrents are shaped left, right, and center during the day till about 10 pm or 11 PM. Thursday it looked a bit better when torrents were running full speed the whole day, but that changed soon enough again.

you dont have congestion on the exchange right or using bad torrent links with low seeds?

Short answer: No, my Exchange seems fine. Torrents is also fine (200 seeders, and 50 LE).

And the torrent isn't badly seeded, as my speed jumped up once I connected via my Afrihost capped account. The TiTracker is still green all the way. HTTP downloads also seem fine.

10PM and torrents are up. uT is topping at 500KBps exactly. Very odd. With torrents paused and SAB running Im still getting in the region of 800KBps. I wont complain though, its a lot better then the last few days.

Well I had the same with Mwebs uncapped which isnt suppose to do badly yet I only got 2 kb - 10 kb from early morning till late at night and still never figured out why when the cap Telkom accounts worked fine same with Afrihost.

So might try Telkom uncapped next month here and hope it works better than Mweb uncapped.

The wheels came off my 4Mbs uncapped this am - not happy :(

TI Tracker Orange.jpg

SAIX May Totals.png

Can't see how the above stats justify slowing to a crawl - switched to TI capped where performance is OK.

I'm still in the green. Haven't downloaded or gamed a lot this month. Checked a torrent yestrrday. Came down at 0.5kB/s with TI uncapped. Checked with another account and same torrent within a minute came down at 415kB/s.

At the moment I'm not recommending TI uncapped anymore.
Ranger mentioned that additional bandwidth would be allocated to Cape Town at the end of this month.

I will see how things go during June, but I think after about 10 years of TI ADSL, I might start looking at other ISP's.

Apart from the slow torrents the last month, my latencies compared to other ISP's are bad and as a gamer, that is not cool for me.

I can assure you, this is not a Cape Town thing, i'm in Jo burg in the west, and ive been having this issue since the 15th May, green on TiTracker, and done a little over 100gigs up and down, on a 2meg line, and my torrents have been no more than 1 kbps since the 15th May, im waiting to see next month what its going to look like, and if it still looks like this, im changing to another ISP. And what makes it worse is, i've vented and vented about this issue since the 15th of May on MYBB and nobody's said anything, i was under the impression that i was to get assistance with issues like this here and im really not like those people that go to the likes of Hello-peter and what have you, because for some reason i dont feel it actually works, but hey, if next month nothing changes, im going to try that route, becuase i really cant be paying that much for a Download speed of 1kbps!

Tested uncapped at 11.00 and speeds are back to normal.

Your current internet usage pattern shows continuous bulk downloads over prolonged periods. This is in contravention of the Telkom Internet Acceptable Use Policy and as such your account will be managed in a manner that allows us to optimise network efficiency for all users.

IPCop 4weeks.png

Like to know where TI extract "continuous bulk downloads over prolonged periods" from the above graph (rolling 4 weeks) given that this is a 4Mbps uncapped account with torrents limited to 225k/Bs - BTW there's +/- 35GB of various capped accounts usage in that graph as well.

Edit: 16:45 - my uncapped has performed normally since 11:00, torrent speeds included. Abuse message is still present on TI Tracker.

I was unhappy this morning and still is, about the torrent speed.
Just tested again and got the same result, 1KB/s dl using TI uncapped and close to full speed using other ISP.

That said, I'm downloading a Linux Distro now via HTTP and I'm getting full speed. So I can't really complain. Just downloaded 536MB in about 18 minutes.

I don't normally dl torrents during the day, but I do download a lot of files via Http during the day and for me that is much more important.

Telkom Shaping on P2P

Yeah, I'm not getting why torrents have to be so bad.

There is no question that Telkom has changed the Shape/Throttle on P2P in May 2013.

I have been using this uncapped service since it began along with Torrents, and have been chuffed with it til now.

From 10pm they let it run wild and I get my quota of Kbps and still seems to run after 8am in the morning with reasonable speed but definitely throttled a bit. By about 9am it is pretty much gone, and I get nothing else through til 10pm again. The same shaping does not appear to occur on weekends. It's not the torrent's health, I've checked (MTN 3G at the same time and it motors).

If you see DL rate bouncing around 0.5Kbps, I think this is just the overhead and not actual content (Consider this blocked)

I am Green on TiTracker but I am on 2M Uncapped line. Still, Uncapped is Uncapped and the only shaping statement I have seen from Telkom is that I may be shaped to 1M between 8am and 6pm, 1.5M between 6pm and 10pm, and 2M for the rest. While the P2P seems to be blocked between 9 am and 10pm (PROPERLY), all of the other sites I visit and services I use run as expected, day and night.

The crazy thing is I have a family member in Limpopo Province (also on TI Uncapped) and her P2P runs when mine does not, so this shaping seems to be regional.

Anyone confirm this?

Very much in the green still,
Telkom torrents - 11.5kb
Afrihost spare account torrents ~200kb.

Not praising Afrihost at all, just used it to check if it wasn't local congestion or the torrent itself but definitely Telkom, damn, I would at least expect some speed at this time of the night.

MickeyD's also seems to be running fine while other gets zip.
