@MartyMarts , from the previous 10-20 pages, you will pickup that only when you reach RED will it be throttled.

2MB - usage goes orange around 180GB - no speed issues - RED - 240GB +- throttled to 512kbps speeds until month end.

4MB - Edit: see MickZA's response

According to Telkom, I am being 'managed':

So I'm assuming I'm being throttled . . .
Don't think so, you need to be in the red and they definitely limit you to 1Mbps. See this post from signates last month - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/369314-Telkom-Internet-Uncapped-User-Feedback?p=10486319&viewfull=1#post10486319

10MB - i can confirm this month am on 600GB in orange (combined Up/Down) but i think around 500GB is safe zone before orange. No throttling but waiting to see the magic spot that makes things go slooow. Did experience earlier sub 512kbps speeds but that was gone shortly (when some were mentioning speed issues here) :p.

I will try to go through all posts and post in the OP about these threshold value approximates so new users can find it easily :). Ti won't ever publish them so these are subject to change as i think ranger mentioned that these values we see aren't fixed. Just reporting what i have read and experienced myself.

:D -go crazy and watch HD videos guys. I just jumped on Steam first time and The W1 + W2 is so large (not for me though) :).

@ Yuu + MickZA. Thanks for the replies. I have been following this thread since before I moved to TI (been with TI Uncapped since beginning of March). ...but I seem to miss the important posts somehow :o I honestly thought ORANGE meant some sort of throttling was in force - what does 'your account will be managed' mean then? Also, why the poor speedtest results?

I'll do another speedtest a bit later. Usually I get between 3.8Mbps and 4.2Mbps. With speedtest.net and myBB's speedtest showing poor results I thought my little pipe was getting the squeeze :/

I think the message is just to scare you and alert you to possible throttling later, it's actually pointless as I suspect most medium downloaders in all speed categories just ignore it now (I do around 300GB/mth on 4Mbps).

Speeds can be variable ATM as TI provision & juggle extra bandwith to improve network performance (see this post by ranger - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/369314-Telkom-Internet-Uncapped-User-Feedback?p=10627779&viewfull=1#post10627779) but overall I'm happy with my account.

Hope it's back to normal when I get home. Yesterday I had 200ms ping and almost no connectivity :(
And no, I'm not throttled.

I see... Over the years with MWEB I used to do anything from 50GB to 450GB so I could be a very light user one month and an 'abuser' the next. I suppose the whole "you're being managed" seemed a little odd to me at 288GB for the month. I'll try ignore it :D

Apart from 720p Youtube streaming seamlessly one night to buffering like a rabid dog in 360p the next night I'm also quite happy with my account.

*But it is rather annoying that the SO and little one often complain that the interwebs is "soooo slow" or Youtube keeps "breaking". Yet they never seemed to complain when we were with mweb

Game latency is not good (Diablo 3).

Sometimes it's fine (220ms or so), other times it's absolutely awful (+ 1 second!).

Changing to an Afrihost uncapped account gives consistent sub 200ms latencies.

We found a problem with some of the traffic management changes made yesterday, and resolved this problem around 13h50 today.

xrapidx, please let me know how things are on your side.

I'll check this evening. What I don't get is why everything seems ok from Thursdays till Sunday midday on my side... then dies for the rest of the week. Think for the third weekend in a row.

Hey guys, I've tried other ISP accounts and my line still sucks, could these stats explain why I'm having a bad experience, maybe issues with my line syncing at 8MB? Telkom also said they had issues syncing my line at 10, would these stats support this?

Line Attenuation downstream: 26.5 db
Line Attenuation upstream: 15.5 db

Noise Margin upstream: 17.05 db
Noise Margin downstream : 10.0 db

I can confirm this. My pings were really bad internationally until about that time, everything ok now.
Thanks Ranger

If the problem is on our side, we will fix it by the end of the month. If they are not fixed yet, I will look in more detail.

If I haven't got info from you (username, and/or ADSL phone number), please PM it to me after you have tested. We may need to get someone from the ADSL network side to confirm whether there are ADSL-side problems or not (a number of escalations we got in the Western Cape were resolved by moving lines to other DSLAMs ....).

Hi Ranger

Has the IPC in Cape Town been upgraded ? Just want to know if Sunday went well or not, as buffering has been stuttering again since Saturday evening.

I have PM'd my information in the past - so I think you have it.

Unfortunately no change - took over a minute to open gmail - can't stream anything

Http downloads are pretty sucky now. Speeds are all over the place, from 12kbps - 100kbps, but averaging around 28kbps on a 2MB line. What's happening ?

Feedback on ASA complaint

Just a quick update on the complaint I lodged with the Advertising Standards Association (ASA) in regards to Telkom making use of the terms 'Uncapped' and 'No Limits' when they advertise their ADSL on their website. See link below for my earlier post in this thread.

Sorry, I should have posted this earlier but forgot about it and then deleted the feedback given and had to request it again etc.....

Attached the feedback from ASA (sorry for the jpeg's, on mobile so only way to attached it). I have not been to Telkoms site again to see how the advertisement for their ADSL service has been amended.

Well done man. Many people just complain on here (even I'm guilty of this). Glad to see some people take an initiative in helping out the little guy :)

On topic, my speeds are now flying, so, not sure what the heck is going on.

lol ASA always uses that response so waste of time complaining about anything. Just my opinion. Look if you not happy dont join or leave. Let your wallet do the talking.

4 meg uncapped.

Speeds seem fine.

Done 316 GB and still orange on titracker. Gaming LAtency is noit an issue.

P2P and News-servers definitely shaped during the day.
