Hi Ranger / TelkomZA

I'm back on my Afrihost account this evening. Because. You know. Everything streaming and cool on the internet like my Apple TV (movie trailers, music videos, Hulu, Netflix) doesn't work on TI uncapped.

But hey.

Maybe your engineers can look into that ?

Thanks.
Did you guys PM them? If not, please do - we need this issue escalated. Poor streaming performance is a dealbreaker for a lot of us :(

Exact same problem here with streaming. I've also switch over to Afrihost (which I'll do permanently if this continues).

Ok, so I figured this would be a great time to ask this. (forgive me if its been answered, I must of missed the memo)

Since I should now technically be on a 4 Mbps Uncapped account (was 2 Mbps before the upgrade) have the rolling limits (or whatever marketing term ISPs are using these days) has it increased as well?

Not to nitpick here at a free upgrade but I feel that a 100% increase warrants a proportional 100% increase in threshold limits?

Yes, the limits vary according to line speed, on 4Mb/s you should get about 400-500GB excluding the 12am-6am times so you could actually do way more. Well that's my understanding anyway.

The Telkom CheckADSL site says my current speed is 4Mb, but I'm still getting 2Mb. I understand that they may still be busy with the upgrade, but just wanting to find out if this will change automatically on my side, or do I have to call in and ask them to get me to sync on 4 ?

Mine showed that as well yesterday, but check my speedtest this morning http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3117580308

I can not stream on Telkom uncapped account. I PM'd ranger 2 days ago and have heard nothing back!!
If I switch to a different ISP account then the streaming is 100%.
I will be voting with my feet if this does not change pretty quickly - I am not going to pay for a service I can not use...

+1 What's the point in speed upgrades if everything which requires speed is shaped to hell.

Last night Torrents where crawling, anyone else from DBN had issues with torrents last night?

My torrents were slow last night and this morning but I forgot to enable port forwarding on my router after I reset it to factory defaults yesterday. Enabled port forwarding this morning and still slow but the torrents I am downloading is arb stuff from the 60s-70s so not much seeders. Added a new torrent with many seeders and boom full line speed again (90-100Kb/s) :D

How do you enable port forwarding? I have the Netgear N300 DGN2200 router.

I agree with both of you guy's on this, however, i was thinking just to allow till next week to then say something, because the upgrades are still underway, and the Tech's are still doing what they do (Optimistic much - Could also explain why Ranger and TelkomZA are so quiet of late)... So, i'd wait for it, and then try and figure out next week what the issue is.. Be it that they need to adjust certain restrictions on the different protocols etc. But yeah....

Sure it will be sorted out... Not changing ISPs just yet

Same here. If not fixed within the next week I will be cancelling TI uncapped and trying Afrihost for a month, probably a 150gig capped and unshaped package.

Not a high volume downloader - max 150-200gb a month on my 10meg line.

But when I need it to work it must work.

None of this "oh it's shaped to death in the evenings so no hulu or netflix or streaming iTunes radio etc"

It's great for NNTP but then market it as an NNTP high download account only. Otherwise this is pure fail.

TelkomZA / Ranger - do you guys have any feedback on this issue ? It's getting more prevalent.

I use Transmission bittorrent client and it's set to use TCP Port 51413 which I've configured under my routers virtual server settings to be allowed.
Not familiar with netgear, have one lying here but the pos overheats within 10mins of powering on and dies.
