Netflix was a bit wonky last night at about 7pm, low quality and some buffering.. nothing else consuming bandwidth.

Ranger - TelkomZA - I'm going to keep asking this question:

Why are streaming video protocols like Hulu and Netflix shaped to death evenings btw 6PM and 12PM.

Why do they work perfectly when I switch to a backup Afrihost account ?

You have clever technical people - is it too much to ask to get them to investigate and respond ?

+1000

TI should do what Afrihost does - they never shape realtime services (browsing/video streaming) but only shape P2P when necessary

That's Possible even without a VPN on a 1Mb/s line.

His downloads probably ran for around 10 hours at 100Kb/s to get that much data down.

Oh ok, i wouldn't know though? I haven't downloaded a Torrent in about 8-9 Months on TI, ill use my back up account if want a Torrent, which is very very rare....

WOW.. Through a VPN?

No, just normally.

I actually started testing a vpn yesterday but my torrent client wants nothing to do with it, need to figure out why. Also normal downloads via the vpn is dog slow, <300kb/s

I have no need for a vpn, my torrents run at near line speed, for now.

Nice! Like i said, i havent had a need for torrents for some time now, but i have seen a whole lot of complaints about the new shaping policy Telkom's implemented (un-official response) on Torrents, so yeah... Thats what i based my response on, but nice to see some people are still getting good speeds on torrents.

If you are using Utorrent try setting your net_bind_ip to the VPN address.

That means you where downloading at 128Kb/s flat out for 8hrs? (450mb per hour).
I wish I could get full line speed, most I get is around 104Kb/s. :(

No, I get about 100-104Kb/s. Fastest I've ever seen was 106Kb/s.

You will never ever get 128Kb/s due to protocol overheads (L2&L3)

I am not sure if it's a Telkom issue, but I'd like to sort out a very bad latency issue with this game:

http://www.pathofexile.com/

As far as I understand this is the game server I am playing on:

In-game I get latency anywhere between 300-900+ ms.

So, what do I do next?

In communication with the Telkom rep (again, thanks for the prompt and thoughtful responses so far).

Posting this in the thread, as I was amazed at the difference:

Telkom uncappped account:

Uncapped account is hellaciously spiky (jitters between 300 - 900ms).

Test Telkom capped account:

Smooth as a baby's bottom.

The 25% discount I got a month ago feels more and more like a con. Since I have taken the discount my line has gone to the dogs! Now I can't change because they will claw back a portion of the discount. If my Telkom line does not improve soon I am moving ISP... Had enough

my nzb's fly all day long if I let them. Http is good and so is youtube. The only thing is the occasional torrent I download or should I say not download at the speed that it comes down. I am also suffering from alot of dead period of time, where the router is still connected but no traffic is going up or down and then all of a sudden it starts to work again.

Slow downloads and poor latency on certain webpages.

Hi Ranger / TelkomZA

I'm back on my Afrihost account this evening. Because. You know. Everything streaming and cool on the internet like my Apple TV (movie trailers, music videos, Hulu, Netflix) doesn't work on TI uncapped.

But hey.

Maybe your engineers can look into that ?

Thanks.
