copacetic i actually dont know what question you're trying to ask? Your line syncs at 8 and you have the 10 Mbps package? Have you tried asking them to resync your line to 10, is it unstable at 10?

I think he wasn't happy with the 428 kB/s download, which are 4Mbps speeds.

Right.

Perhaps the answer to this is so obvious, that no one can really believe I am asking it.

Telkom upgraded/are upgrading their speeds, right?

My question is simply whether the Telkom ISP speeds are also upgraded?

As I am syncing at 8 and getting speeds of 4, using my Telkom ISP account. When I use an unshaped account, I get the speed I am syncing at.

*edit*

I am on the ten package (obviously), but it was syncing at six, and the rep and I are in communication to see how it performs at eight...

Well I have received a 4mb upgrade from 2mb.
I get 4mb speeds.
So by that rationale, you should receive 8mb speeds based on your routers sync speed.

I am glad that I am not alone in assuming this.

Just spoke to a call centre agent, and if you had a 4 meg line to begin with, you stay on that ISP package.

You will have to upgrade your isp package, you will probably still be on the 4Mbps package. At times you might reach speeds of 10Mbps but you will be shaped to the usage of a 4Mbps line.

I think whats confused you is that some people have been reporting higher speeds despite having the lower isp accounts. I assume this is more by Telkoms accident than design though.

I finally found the relevant pages on their site.

I think part of the confusion is that the upgrade process is busy happening, and there are new prices coming out, effective beginning of next year.

In any event, the situation appears to be this:

and

So, there is a R200 difference overall between the two packages.

Unhappy

I am on a 4mb adsl line but a 2mb data portion.
My line runs at 4mb.

This is why Copacetic is annoyed.
He should be getting 10mb/8mb speed but his data portion will remain low.

Btw Copacetic those prices look wrong to me.

Just remember guys that 1mbps line and IP bandwidth upgrade to 2mbps had no cost increase. The same with 2mbps line and IP bandwidth upgrade to 4mbps. However 4mbps line and IP bandwidth upgrade to 10mbps carries a cost increase for the IP bandwidth portion. So that would easily explain why Telkom would leave the 4mbps to 10mbps customers on 4mbps IP bandwidth. You will have to contact Telkom to change to 10mbps IP bandwidth.

Makes sense, thanks for that

The prices are from their website, effective next year.

Yeah but the way i see it you get a different price once you start placing the order and bundle it etc. Try doing it before it asks for personal details and you will see what i mean, it could still work out to be R200 difference though but probably at a lower price.

It's offering me a router I don't ****ing need, no matter what I do.

I goddamn surrender, jesus...

That is what I did.

Why does this have to be so confusing?

So if the prices I posted are incorrect, then wtf are the correct prices?

That is weird. Here is what mine shows:

4mbps bundle = R705
10mbps bundle = R1156

4mbps internet only = R249
10mbps internet only = R574

Yeah and those bundle prices are telephone line included.
