Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Well everything was well and truly farked last night.
Didn't even bother going online all night.
This morning everything was back to usual.

At least the problem was solved.

Starting to wonder if the Telkom infrastructure can handle all these upgrades they did!

The thing is, it seems to be TI customers that are complaining about poor speeds and / or latency too mostly international destinations. It seems that using back up accounts from other ISP's do not yield the same poor results.

Tsk, Tsk

and we sit here in SA grumbling about TI's DNS routing, mind you the humidity here in PE the last couple of days isn't a joke either :D

This is the second day in a row that speeds have been really bad but it's only in the morning.

Can confirm that telia.net is buckling under the load again - 475ms to bbc.co.uk, 14% packet loss. It's coming up for 07:00 in the UK so people are stirring.

A comment from ranger re alternative routing would be welcome.

Well at least you guys have internet. In still without a working connection.

It was a great festive season on TI uncapped.

Had 3 weeks of bliss in PE, while everyone around the country was away in other parts there was clearly enough bandwidth and relaxed shaping.

Then I predicted it would go belly-up from Sunday when all and sundry returned home and used their net.

That seems to be the story - have hopped onto my Afrihost capped account since Sunday evening and it's been true bliss.

Trust me that Telkom has provisioned ample bandwidth, more so than any other backbone provider (also ranger mentioned last year Feb/March if you wanna backtrack this thread :p) :).

I'm moving into a new place soon and was keen to go with the Telkom simple uncapped 4mb offer. I will mainly be using the line for streaming and gaming. Having read the last few pages it seems that I should stay away from Telkom? Pity as it's a really good deal :(

You really shouldn't base your decision on this thread.
Myself and many others are very happy.

Connection has been re-established but the slow international access continues. Guy who called said that they will be investigating.

I suppose people don't rush online in order to speak about good service. Also it's month to month and there are no contracts involved so if it's not going well I can always make the call to move.

Thanks Electric!

It's a long thread and I doubt you have gone far back to see the compliments over negative comments.
The last day I had some issues but everything was resolved automatically when I got up this morning.

I joined in August and have had a flawless product the entire time.
Received a free upgrade from 2mb to 4mb and a price decrease.
I use nzb to download data and not torrents so I get full line speed 24/7.
I stream HD content on Hulu without issues.
On a 2mb line I was able to download 320gb without any form of shaping or fear of shaping.
etc. etc. etc.

Do you stream at all by any chance? I'm hardly going to be do any downloading, I'll mainly be streaming on XBMC. It's streaming on uncapped products that I'm a little nervous of. Also hoping that streaming will work fine on a 4meg. It should though, I don't mind watching shows in SD.

That's why i mentioned Hulu.
I stream all of my tv at home.
The family watches Hulu everyday on a 4mb line in HD.
Previously on the 2mb we could get high quality streaming, not full HD but better than DVD quality imo.

So 2mb will work fine but 4mb will be best.

If latency is important to you. Then don't get a Telkom internet account. I have had this account since the 2nd and since the 5th the experience has been terrible.

I am not ****ing impressed at the moment.

Why do we have to desperately track down someone to help us?

I'd have no issue phoning them, but the call centre people are more than clueless.

All I want is some sort of update as to what the hell is wrong with international latency (mine is still ****ed).
