That's why i mentioned Hulu.
I stream all of my tv at home.
The family watches Hulu everyday on a 4mb line in HD.
Previously on the 2mb we could get high quality streaming, not full HD but better than DVD quality imo.

So 2mb will work fine but 4mb will be best.

Sorry I completely missed the Hulu part in your post! Awesome I'm definitely going to give it a bash. Hopefully I'll report back with good news :D

If latency is important to you. Then don't get a Telkom internet account. I have had this account since the 2nd and since the 5th the experience has been terrible.

If I have a problem gaming I'll probably use a separate 10 gig capped Afrihost account.

As I've mentioned, we don't all have these problems.
Gaming on my side is fine.
Occasional lag spikes but otherwise fine.

My son is at home gaming most of the time during the holidays when he's not skating.
He hates lag so makes a point of msging me if anything goes wrong.

Trust me that Telkom has provisioned ample bandwidth, more so than any other backbone provider (also ranger mentioned last year Feb/March if you wanna backtrack this thread :p) :).
I'll challenge you on this opinion. While they may have plenty of infrastructure available, have they provisioned sufficiently to handle the additional bandwidth required due to the product upgrades?

I think it must still be done... and the network freeze stumped them.

I wouldn't be too hasty. I've been watching this thread for a while as I was just waiting for my previous ISP's account to run out, and this week seems to be the first indication of major trouble. I've got a feeling it's just a blip. Mine certainly seems to be better today from some brief testing, and I'll test more thoroughly with some online games later.

Do you stream at all by any chance? I'm hardly going to be do any downloading, I'll mainly be streaming on XBMC. It's streaming on uncapped products that I'm a little nervous of. Also hoping that streaming will work fine on a 4meg. It should though, I don't mind watching shows in SD.

My experience mimics that of Electric, although I probably dont get anywhere near 200gb a month.
XBMC, Netflix, Hulu, Coke and Popcorn, hell any streaming site works well for me.
I stream 720p without a buffer (Line 4MB Acc 2MB)

I comment much about the latency in game but my son plays online (xBox Live ) and he hasn't complained.
EDIT: My sons 8 so I dunno if he understands latency LOL

Awesome. I'm definitely going to give it a bash! I'm sure it will serve me perfectly :)

Speeds are fine. I can get the maximum out of a 4mb line with my account. But if I try play counter strike, tf2 or even dota 2 online the latency is terrible.

Any other ISP (MTN or IS based) works flawlessly. I tried a Telkom capped account and it has the same problems. Only the Telkom guest account has normal latency to telkom.co.za :P

It seems like everything has been throttled.

My routing to the uk seems to be different than others here in the thread... Not that it makes a difference to the connection speeds.

Don't even bother trying to phone in and cancel. After waiting 28 minutes to speak to someone I get the most uninterested woman on the other side of the phone.
First she wanted to upgrade my line speed then I finally got her to understand I wanted to cancel my "ADSL data account" then she says okay I'm going to put you on hold for a reference number. Six minutes later the call gets disconnected.

Going to the Telkom direct shop tomorrow morning and attempt to cancel it.

My 4meg account is running fine watch youtube @ 720p no buffering

My Boys bought themself XBOX live gold playing great now .

was a bit of lag few days ago ( but reading posts I was not the only 1)

People are Quick to complain when things go wrong . But dont say when all is great .

I have happily been on Telkom ADSL since 2006 .

Why should you say anything when something you paid for, is working as it should? Compliments are reserved for exceptional service, not standard service.

That's the point. Complaints are relatively few, so it's probably working just fine for most people.

After a few days of very high latency, today has been just slightly on the high end of "ok", and I'm expecting it to improve further by tonight.

So again, my advice is to not be too hasty with cancelling. It's only been a week and many other ISPs will lock you in with 2 month cancellation notices.

If people follow this thread then Telkom seems to be the worst ISP out there.
Which they aren't.
If folks don;t give positive feedback then naturally it all seems negative.

How many customers does each ISP have and how many of those customers are complaining?

Really? Looking at other threads, I've seen worse.

Still having issues of bad latency and transfer speeds on anything international with my Telkom account :( I've attached speed tests of Telkom and Afrihost done on the same line to the same server in London. We having the same issue at work as well on a Telkom business account.

Call center is absolutely useless as well when it comes to these kinds of issues, if not all.. What does one actually do in this scenario other than cancelling :/
