Still ded in Umtentweni. Just took about 10 minutes to get a YouTube video started on xbmc. Can't wait for this to be resolved. I have no urge to leave ti :(

Is that kzn? Please check a traceroute for dslam congestion. Youtube shouldn't be too bad. My kids were watching youtube on xbmc last night around 19h30 without problems.

Playing Guild Wars 2 - was unplayable most the afternoon, had an event that started 17:00 that I was committed to attend.

Around 19:00 things improved somewhat - till when I had to quit around 20:00 - children came visiting ....

Hope this is a continuing trend

Thanks for the feedback ranger, appreciate it.. seems you are in quite the melting pot here, just seems weird to me... that's all wholesale this wholesale that seems like internal politics to me,

The point is that it is not supposed to internal politics, it is supposed to be commercial agreements (we give them most of our revenue), but I believe we get treated the worst of all of their big customers.

congestion on dslams with upgrades which should have been prepared for they should have done the maths... especially after all the articles stating they have the infrastructure to handle this.. have a good weekend...

DSLAM congestion will probably be blamed by other ISPs soon. Look for an article about MWEB asking for IPC price cuts and complaining about DSLAM congestion at the same time. IMHO, IPC should be more expensive to cover DSLAM backhaul capacity as well.

But, this isn't a thread about DSLAM congestion, which Telkom Internet can do nothing about. However, for those that are seeing high latency on speedtest or normal ping (not gaming ping), please check for DSLAM congestion, otherwise when we fix anything that is our problem, you're going to be complaining that it still isn't fixed ... and it might not have been us in the first place.

I am having to buffer on Netflix with my 4mbps line.

Anyone else?

What would be the best way to carry out this check?

Seems ok?

Experiencing very high local and international latency in CPT area. Local has gotten a lot worse, around 300ms to a local CPT server. Perfect performance on 1GB AH account

I didn't ask for server. Provide the platform, game title, and which region you are situated in, and I will see what we can do. No promises though, I will still need to get approval for anything I propose.

Thx Ranger.
If/when possible could you look at Gran Turismo 6 on PS3. lots of disconnect issues for me and some of the guys. Not really lag problems.

Blacklight Retribution - PS4
Huge latency issuses. The game shows me normally at 520 - 600ms. Lots of lag.

PS4 - War of Tunder - Lag issues.

Occasionally lag on BF3 PS3.

Hope you guys catch a break soon. I'm sure your team is tired and gatvol.

Try with another ISP on a different backbone/network

Sorry i may have this wrong , but surely whether i connect... through MWEB, TELKOM ISP, etc I still would use the same DSLAM? surely congestion on the DSLAM would remain the same? I could be wrong....

While I understand that it costs money to upgrade and maintain infrastructure. An increase in IPC cost will undoubtably be passed on to the consumer. This is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned as Telkom is both a parastatal and a monopoly.

If a monopoly is sourcing more money from consumers to facilitate servicing then something is seriously askew and management should be brought to task regarding such practices.

Sounds like mismanagement of resources to me.

This is all hypothetical though.

Precisely, so if thing work with an alternative ISP...

Odd, Battlefield 4 local, Dota 2 local and Teamspeak local seems good for me in Cape Town. Havn't played anything on international servers lately.

I'm generally happy with my account but the international DC++ shaping is totally out of hand. I can't connect at all except in the early hours (2-4am). I don't even use it to download, just to chat. If the shaping doesn't relax to the point where I can at least connect and chat I'm going to have to go back to IS :(

Folks had better get used to what is about to hit us as ADSL customers...

http://www.compcom.co.za/assets/Upl...-reaches-settlement-agreement-with-Telkom.pdf

Going forward and to ensure the non-discriminatory treatment of its competitors in comparison to its own retail operations and to allow for monitoring of its conduct, Telkom will implement functional separation between retail and wholesale operations including a transfer pricing programme to regulate transactions in the provision of network services between its wholesale and retail divisions. In addition, it will implement a code of conduct for the wholesale division that will ensure non-discriminatory treatment of ISPs and protection of their confidential service information from the competing retail division. Telkom will also keep separate internal accounts for its own retail corporate VPN and Internet access products to allow for monitoring that it does not engage in a margin squeeze in contravention of the Competition Act in future.

This is what ranger is referring to... what they (TI) is to be treated the same way that Telkom Wholesale treats the other ISPs and TI do not want to subsidise Telkom Wholesale in the process.

So if there is DSLAM congestion or backhaul issues, then Telkom Wholesale must sort it out.

Telkom wholesale is not being paid for the physical lines so to expect them to service DSLAM's is just plain wrong.

Anyway, I understand the need for regulatory measures with regard to fair distribution of IPC and if TI feel they're being unfairly treated then they should take it up with the authorities.

This right here is why a monopoly is just plain bad for everybody concerned. In a competitive and private market TI could have voted with their wallets and sources bandwidth elsewhere.

Of course they are.

Old argument that is invalid as any network operator can build their own networks...
