Really struggling to understand this.....

Charlo I think.

041-368
AFAIK there's work underway in that area while they are preparing to upgrade you to 40Mbps capable ISAMs (the French version of the Chinese MSAN). The first one is already installed at the c/o Circular Drive / Van Eck Street. Charlo is the first area in PE to be upgraded.

Charlo is (041) 367(which is where the exchange is located?). I am actually closer to circular drive/van eck (In Lorraine) so I should be going through the ISAM before reaching the exchange at Charlo?

But if what you are saying is true, this is awesome news:D I just wish someone could have sent me the usual: "telkom will be undergoing maintenance..." email. This would have prevented me from pulling all my hair out at the frustrations these past few weeks...

You were getting really high pings to your router, maybe just make sure it is well ventilated, might be overheating. Exchange congestion however there is not much you can do.

This morning's trace route:

semms to be 100% again:wtf:

Exchange congestion is not permanent. Congestion on consumer/home-user networks are typically highly utilised during evenings, and less utilised in early mornings.

On our side of the equation, peak times are 09h00 to 23h00. Exchange peak times would be similar.

This is why your latency looks good (26ms to the internet) outside that time (e.g. morning before 09h00).

So it is exchange congestion then?? If so, Telkom's internet experience has gone to the toilet ever since these cheaper uncapped products were introduced.

Everyone's experience sarted going down the toilet since uncapped was introduced (IMHO).

In theory, all ISPs should be affected equally, but we have seen some funnies that we are still trying to understand ...

Not seen any reports from yesterday so just putting this out there, from just before 3pm my 2MB Uncapped Ti account has gone down to a 512K speed but ADSL is synching at normal speeds.

A mybroadband speed test yields

Test conducted on Sunday, April 21, 2013 00:13:13

Download Speed: 312 kbps (39 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 384 kbps (48 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 34 ms

Only change i can think of is phoning for the discount that was applied on said ADSL line about 2 days ago...hmmm. :p

My speeds also went South since the afternoon on a 4Mbps line. You will see a couple of posts back I posted the abnormal high dl speeds, but the fact is that I was getting between 5 - 40kB/s dl.

RoMark - samething wrt the speeds, 40KB/s max on browsing and p2p so technically 384K speeds :p. Wonder what happened though?

Will give the support line a call and find out a little later.

This morning had to reset my router as it disconnected and couldn't authenticate. No issues with speed yet, done around 280Gb or so this month so far on 4Mb.

Traffic.png

Looking at yesterdays upload traffic (blue) it seems there was a glitch in the afternoon which cleared before 6pm. Everything seems fine today.
