Both work on port 119 and I've tried SSL and it worked as well.
I think 5 ports, but no more than 2 connect for me.
Don't need account details.

I'm not a boffin on it. I rarely use it, but it does work.

Just tested with very old article and is coming down at about 210kB/s
Cheers :)
Appears Telkom is shaping P2P and News servers.

Speedtest is fine on 4 meg uncapped. TiTracker shows usage is green. userstats shows 117 Gb combined.

Would using SSL for usenet prevent shaping?

TiTracker - is that where you check if you've been throttled? Is that the same as the SAIX tracker? The call centre drone couldn't tell me if there was a way to check my usage and any possible throttling

Haven't gone the usenet route with my TI Uncapped but when I was thoroughly testing the last month of my MWEB Uncapped account in March I found lots of stuff here

Which port works with SSL?

I can't get it to work :(
Ports 443 or 563. Also make sure the address is right. Some NNTP providers have a slightly different address for ssl. eg. ssl.astraweb.com as opposed to news.astraweb.com while others use the same address for both.

Yesterday my speeds were terrible. Couldn't stream even a low quality youtube video. Last night I couldn't stream radio.
But this morning it's nice and fast again (whoopa!). Ranger indicated that they are doing upgrades,

I also said the impact was mostly later in the day (it gets progressively worse, from being almost negligible at 10h00, to much worse at 22h00, at which point it starts dropping off).

so hopefully this means that they are finished.

There's still a lot of work to do for us to be in a position to get approval to do the upgrades for Guateng this weekend. Unfortunately, while we don't expect any impact, there is some risk, so it is unlikely that we will get approval for doing it in the week. So, if we don't finish all planning and admin required to get everything in, working, and ready (t's crossed, i's dots on the paperwork) by tomorrow evening, it might only be the next weekend.

/me gets back to some of said paperwork.

Anyone else suffering slow speeds tonight?

1,6mb download on a 4mb uncapped line... 616 ping

lol jus get used to it buddy. My gaming on heroes of Newerth was an issue with lotsa lag.

Thanks for the response.... Helps to feel that I'm not alone! :)

Seems to be climbing a bit - latency down to the mid 20s, and download speeds creeping through the 2mb's range... Such is life. Joy.

I don't want to promise too much, but those going through our Gauteng site should hopefully see improvements over the weekend, and hopefully have all of Monday back to the way we want things to be.

Tried all that- nothing. I'm using AltBinz if that makes a difference?

Anyone? Is there a different address for SAIX SSL NNTP?

I was using sabnzbd with a paid supernews account. iirc, I used the 'default' port of 563 for SSL. I'd check my setup for you now via teamviewer but the pc I was using to download is off currently. Honestly don't know much about this stuff but there's a couple of threads on this "stuff" floating around here so maybe try get some help from one of the 'experts' (if you haven't already).

:/

Would I be going through there or CPT if I live in Durban?
