Fired up my Aus/NZ soap torrents and the speed is terrible on TI uncapped, the same torrents on my TI capped account run fine.

I'll monitor and report back if speeds improve.

Edit: Sods Law - uncapped has improved but speeds are very variable.

The Aus torrents settled down and ran smoothly, just loaded up some UK stuff and it's running fine :)

One must never forget that ADSL is a "Best Effort Service" ... and TI's efforts are currently pretty good :D

Apologies, i might be asking a stoopid question, but am i using my Telkom account [email protected] and password for this to log into this site?

Edit: Nevamind, got it sorted..... my current stats are (cant upload an image, can only when i get home, at work and all sites to upload is bloacked): May online time (seconds): 1466315 Upload: 13 388 237 673 Bytes (13+ Gigs) Download: 72 057 881 826 (72 + Gigs) total 85 446 119 499 (85 Gigs) as opposed to

April: Online Team: 1877866 Upload: 17 958 501 391 Download: 119 015 224 652 Total: 136 973 726 043

Proof that my torrents arent being awesome!!! and according to this site, im still in green...

2nd edit, and the telkom TITRacker says im fine, in green.... also, since im on an uncapped, usage tracking is not applicable to you??

Why after all these am i still being throttled so badly??

Actually it's the username & password you use for internet access, since the beginning of the year this has been the same as your default email address on new uncapped accounts.

However, TI uncapped accounts have been around since 2011 and back then the internet access username format was onlinexxxxx@dslxxxtelkomsa.net and default email addresses were not the same.

We had no changes on our side after Sunday morning. Windows updates had an effect on Wednesday morning, but not Tuesday evening (and it didn't wipe all P2P out ...).

Can you post a traceroute and the output of say 30 pings to rosebank.spdtst.saix.net (e.g. 'ping -n 30 rosebank.spdtst.saix.net' ?

C:\Users\Beast>ping -n 30 rosebank.spdtst.saix.net

My results now @ 18:47... Torrents down again!

I've really been abusing my account this month, on 16GB :D

I need to start downloading stuff....

Im on 1 meg uncapped and did 132 gigs last month on the 19th then line speed throttled to less than half .
im now on 109 gigs and in red but bar is not at the end .
speed still ok .

you cant trust the bar to move up gradualy was on Orange 4 a week insame place them went to red middle .

Throttled for sure:

This is after 100GB DL + 40GB UL = 140GB overall.

Average of 8.5GB DL/day now down to 4.2GB DL/day.

I preferred IS's shaping, where I can pause downloads and internets would be ~full line speed. Throttling isn't great- I've got 10 more days of a 384k line :(

I'll see if I can cancel my upgrade and switch back to IS next month.

This is what my torrents speed looks like! a very good torrent! and speedtest! Really? Throttling? yes? NO?!

So its confirmed that they do indeed throttle your account once you reach red status? This is complete ****!

I wouldn't mind having certain protocols shaped but to have the whole line throttled to a quarter of the speed is not on.

Will be looking at other options.

Unless they come back with some explanation that CPT is still being 'upgraded', I'd say throttling is confirmed.

We need to guestimate the numbers per account type: 1Mbps seems to be red flagged and throttled at about 100-120GB.

Throttling really is a crap option- shaping is much better. That at least leaves my account usable for browsing etc when not downloading.

But my status is still green and yet this is happening... ive only done 80gigs total down and up!

Currently My understanding:

Titracker Green: Everything good. NB titracker rapidly changes to orange. I hit orange after 60 GB this month.

Titracker shows ORANGE: HTTP is normal. Torrents SHAPED 24/7 (only gets unshaped at 10pm). SAIX news server does not work during the day. Gaming lags on Europe servers. I'm on 4 meg line: did 327 GB this month and on orange.

Titracker shows RED (Last month): Entire service gets THROTTLED/slowed to 512 speeds and also gaming becomes non-existent and basic browsing also suffers. NB I have not hit RED this month so not sure if the policy has changed.

Questions:

Is if TiTracker is accurate?
What are the fair usage limits?
Why can we as customers not be notified that we have abused the network enough for our service to get slashed/degraded? (let me put it to you this way: we "abused" the network for the first half of the month with the network not crashing and handling the load yet for the second half of the month the network suddenly needs to degrade our service to function)

Well as at 20/05 I did 49.69GB (6.86 Up and 42.83 Down). Bulk of if it the last 6/7 days. My Telkom "status bar" is in green but in the 20-25% part of the entire bar (well, that's what it looks like to me).

Now based on MightyMuffinMan's post above I'm going to "Orange'd" soon (60GB threshold?). Torrents were flying today - think I moved over 12GB so far today so definitely going over that 60GB mark.

I don't really mind the torrents only being unshaped at night (as an ex MWEB customer, torrents were pretty much a waste of time during business hours anyway) but what else is throttled/shaped while you're in Orange mode?

The amount where you get throttled at depends on the speed of your uncapped account.

Quick question please, do anybody have the setting required for a Cisco Linksys modem/router?

Actually, no. I'm on a 2Mbps uncapped account, that is still in the green, yet torrents are shaped beyond recognition in the day till about 10 PM or 11 PM.

I will absolutely agree with that statement.

Netflix is totally unwatchable and useless on my 2Mb line, until 11PM when the buffering goes away.
This has happened every night for around 2 months now.
P2P is erratic until 11PM and i only average around 40GB per month total.

Im being punished too!

I figured as much but assumed MightyMuffinMan is on 4meg which is what I've got? Just checked my usage and I've moved 71.85GB as of yesterday. Well past that 60GB mark (which I assumed was for 4meg) and my Telkom status bar hasn't moved.

This morning around 7 my torrents were clocking >400kB/s and I've just checked now and they're crawling along at between 50 and 60 kB/s. Yesterday they were flying (over 400kB/s) whenever I checked throughout the day... I'll check again later.
