Yeah, but I'm sure in due time. The speed issues re streaming has been escalated and reported, thus they there are working on it. ^RI

For the past two weeks.........

It takes more than a day to fix some of these things. We have changes being tested that should fix some of the existing problems.

Unfortunately, though we had hoped to get them in over the past weekend, some of the changes they depend on resulted in high resource utilisation, which required software upgrades to resolve. Those upgrades were done over the past weekend (early Sunday morning for Gauteng and early Monday morning for Cape Town), but we couldn't risk doing the final changes.

So, the final changes that should actually achieve what we wanted from the beginning (February) should be made this weekend (23 June).

There is also progress on the bandwidth upgrade for Cape Town. The IP side of the new links should be brought up this weekend.

Any changes for Durban?

I have been having problems for around 3 weeks now. Yesterday I could not even start to stream a YouTube video; completely dead.

I spoke to the Twitter Telkom and they made me do a speedtest which of course is perfectly fine... It's only browsing and streaming which is crud.

Good morning all

Sorry for the long post. I have been battling with a very irritating problem.
My internet connection is rather unstable, but only when it comes to direct and p2p downloads.
For everything else, like browsing, gaming and viewing youtube vids it works fine.

Let's use Steam as an example: I will start downloading a game from steam, it will download perfectly at roughly 100kbps for about 5-15 seconds, then (if you look at the download graph Steam draws), it drops down to zero for about the same time. The same goes for other applications like utorrent.

Now I can live with this, but the issue comes in with certain applications that dont like being interrupted while downloading, like for instance iTunes. Whenever I download something from itunes I have to do it about 3-5 times before it actually completes the download.

I am running windows 7 64bit, and Im with Telkom. I also have n rather cheap router: Tenda W150M.

So, my question is this: Where do you think my problem is? With the router or with telkom? And how do i fix this?

Thank you in advance!

Any changes for Durban?

Durban currently goes through the Gauteng site.

(So, I don't know why people in Durban/KZN seem to have it worse than Gauteng, I mean you do get 15-20ms more latency, but throughput shouldn't differ much).

Some of the changes coming should help us understand these issues (so, investigating it now from our side isn't going to be worthwhile).

@ranger, I have been with telkom for around two weeks now and not one day was awesome! I agree that you have to make changes etc... But why don't I get what I pay for??

And if you are running such a massive network, you should have enough resources to do things without affecting your clients directly.

Right now durban sucks. I cannot stream 240p videos without it completely hanging/disconnecting and browsing is also very slow/erratic.

Thanks for the update ranger, will help ease many who were waiting for some news from you :).

I have cancelled my Openweb Silver account to move to Telkom in July. Reading the last few pages and I don't know what to do now.
Which ISP do I join in July?

I've found rebooting the router seems to sort things out, but I'm having to do it almost daily now, and I didn't have to before, or at all on my MWEB account. Hopefully whatever changes are being implemented sorts things out once and for all.

I have to do it every couple of hours... Complete crap.

Mine is working so much better now, whatever you did thank you and please don't change it. I hope every one else gets sorted.
