They say 4MB enabled exchange but not sure if i can chance it,buy the thnx for the info.

It's a safe bet that you can get 2MB then. My exchange says the same, but i can't go up to 4MB. 2MB is as high as I can go. The checkadsl site from Telkom only lists my exchange as 1MB capable, but I'm running smoothly on 2MB. I'm about 3km from the exchange.

Go here - http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/

Type in your phone number, and you'll get to see the max speed your exchange supports.

Where it says "ADSL is available in your area", there will be a hyperlink with your exchange name listed. click it, and you will see all the details ;)

Unfortunately that is not going to give any indication of what s1n1ster's line quality is like. That site is also outdated.

Yep that is what I wanted.

The main values we are looking at are the values for the Line Attenuation and Noise Margin. Your attenuation is very high which does indicate that you are quite far from the exchange. The noise margin is okay, but not great.

You may be able to get 2Mbit but your line could become unstable. You can always try it out and see what happens, if the line is unstable just drop it back down to 1Mbit.

Okay then rather not throw caution in the wind might boomerang a bit too hard, thanks for the info guys.:)

We found a problem on this IPC link (bandwidth was configured on the wholesale side with 10% less bandwidth than ordered). Our traffic management system was cpnfigured for more than 90% of the capacity of this link, resulting on congestion on the IPC.

Thay should have been fixed this morning.

Then, new links are planned to go live tonight, which should fix any remaining issues.

Thanks ranger. DSL is much better now. Praying it stays that way

Kirkwood / 4Mbps routing through Cape Town.

Pretty happy with my account atm.
Line quality still seems to suffer a bit, but not sure where the problem is in regards to that.

Streaming, downloads and browsing is a good experience for me atm.

Im absolutely fed up with this service. I thought i would try another month, but its been more bad than good.
I cannot stream anything at all, been trying to stream a squash match from a paid for service for ages now, I have pretty much wasted my subscription for that since its ridiculously choppy.

on my fnb connect account, i have zero issues.

I have a well seeded torrent downloading at 60kbps on a 4mb account. But get this... it's uploading at 110kbps. Guess who loses? It was fine at full line speed until just after 6:45. That's when Telkom reckoned...'Whats this torrent thing? It must be stoppped. Now!'

I think I'm going to get a Vanilla OW account rather. This experience is too frustrating. I only ever download at night during the week and on weekends. OW Vanilla should suit my needs just fine. Cheers TI. Two awesome months to start off with, but since then... poor. Very poor.
