I spoke too soon it appears. Remoted into my PC, did a speedtest and only achieved 2.2MB. No improvement after rebooting router either. In fact results are slower than the 3MB I achieved earlier today....
I called 10210 and spoke to a lady at DSL support. She did a port reset and I tested again and only managed to achieve 2.26MB on 3 tests. She checked and my exchange is far from congested, her words.
Then while on the phone with her my line lost sync, GREAT! Now I got no working internet at all.

She's despatching the technician again tomorrow to recheck and repair.

Kudo's to TelkomZA on their speedy assistance, too bad the technician didn't fix the problem but made it worse (unintentionally I hope)

EDIT: At home now and line is syncing again. Getting a whopping 0.89MB on speedtest :'(

I have sent PMs to Awesum and Gboss with instructions they need to follow so I can initiate investigations of the problem (assuming for now it is an ISP problem and not DSLAM congestion).

If it is an ISP problem, no number of port resets or anything that can be done with any of the tools currently available directly to the call centres (that aren't available to you anyway, such as checking your status on tracker) will help.

If it is DSLAM congestion, as far as I know a port reset may give an improvement for a few minutes, but I would hesitate to even call it a short-term fix.

Thanks for the PM Ranger. I have replied.

Speed is full line speed currently, but It drops back to 1Mbps during the day.

Ranger to the rescue :)

I have replied to your PM. I will PM you again at 19:30 this evening.
Thanks again Ranger

@Awesum - I did at test @ 6am this morning and I too was getting full line speed, in fact results were 3.49MB. Right now I did a test and its at 3.22MB. I found that my speed slowly decgrades as the day goeas on. By 13:00 it will be 2MB and by 16:00 its 1MB and below.

But we have Ranger on the scene so there's hope.

Speedtests are now below 3MB and I found something interesting. Ranger asked me to run a continuos ping to 105.228.0.13 below is a some of the results. time seems to vary greatly from between 20 -30ms then spike right up to 1400ms then goes back down to between 20-30ms for the majority of the time.

Have you tried running ping 105.228.0.13 -t yet?
I'm curious as to whether you getting similar results to mine.

In my case I find the speedtest ping is low yet the continuos ping shows instances of very high latency which then drop back down to normal only to spike again

I finally had enough and cancelled my telkom line.
Moved to another ISP, the difference for me is massive. All I wanted was decent streaming, I now have it in abundance. Hoping it stays that way

This is the 1st time I had a problem with Ti. So I'm gonna give them a chance to make things right, I been with a few other ISP's and Ti has been the best experience so far, obviously ignoring my recent troubles.

Not sure what was going on today but it has been a total waste.

Started this morning when trying to work on some of my Google Doc's spreadsheets. Tried for around 5 minutes and gave up. Was so unresponsive that you could get nothing done. Decided to watch some YouTube video's as I had nothing else to do. First video was a 5.56 clip. Took me 11:50 to watch it, just about double the time.

Did a couple of speedtests and best one showed that my line was actually running just over 60% of its speed. That was good, usually only get around 40 to 50%. So I did what I always do, logged a fault with Telkom. Think I have logged one almost every third day for the past three months.

Received a mail this afternoon that my fault has been resolved. Tried Google again. Better but still pretty useless. One cannot work while waiting almost 30 seconds just to copy a value from one sell to the next. Tried YouTube again. Same story. Watched a 7:11 minute clip which took me just over 13:10 minutes.

Now posting here then shutting down. Just another day in Telkom land. At least I had a nice pub lunch today.

+1 I also cancelled and moved and can agree - HUGH improvement.... speedtest.net and pingtest is actually working again....

That's it. I'm done. Internet is back to ****, just gonna cancel.

Also going well on my side.
Feeling for the guys with the problems. Hope you guys get sorted soon.
