Mmmmmmhhhhh.... why though? Thats not cool, I'd be ok with it if I can stream and browse perfectly that time, but I cant stream at all now, my xbmc keeps getting stuck on 20% buffering! Not cool!!

I'm browsing and streaming at 480p perfectly on my 2MB Uncapped. Speedtest tells a different story, and it's looking a lot like throttling.

XBMC was my reason for upgrading to 4MB.... I wanted to watch in HD, right now I cant watch at all either

Oh well I'll have see whats on DSTV then I guess

I'll report back at 10pm, which is when I suspect everything will "magically" be sorted out. :wtf:

If it is throttling - and that's a big IF - then it has surely been implemented (again - pure speculation) recently... Having upgraded to uncapped and a 4mb line (from 2mb) - and up and till 2 weeks ago, running it all through an ancient router - I have been rather pedantic with monitoring my speeds (as I'm sure many others are)...

This weekend was the 1st time I noticed this pattern. There were other times as well - obviously - but nothing as prolonged, and systematic. Of course, it could be coincidental due to major upgrades/maintenance - or it could be planned. Human nature will (almost) always gravitate to the more negative of two options - but I'm going to sit on the fence for a bit on this one, and hope for the best...

I was looking for this email my mate sent me a week ago. This line was of particular interest.

Does this sound like the problem most of us are having ? Can ranger confirm (or deny) this ?

I'm on a 20Gb DO3 package, and my speed tests are bad as well. Last night I got local ping times of over 1500ms! Tonight it seems to be hovering between 80ms - 500ms Switched to my FNB connect account and all was back to normal... So I don't think it is throttling on uncapped accounts only, looks like all TI accounts are affected.

I never got the chance to cancel TI today so just gave things a try out to see how we are getting along tonight.

FFS, what a disgrace is all I can say without launching my laptop through the window into the cold and wet Hermanus sky.

So, sod this for a laugh! Logged onto axxess, bought 30gb for R181, changed the login details, and good grief, my 4mb line is maxing out.

Happy days. Telkom Internet, you can have my money until I have the patience to sit on the phone for 30 minutes to cancel. Even if it takes a month, I don't care. I'm just so happy to not have to use your disgraceful, pathetic attempt at an internet service.

My browsing is perfect also, just my streaming on XBMC, not so perfect....

I also upgraded from 2mb to 4mb. Everything was perfect till a month ago.
Then exchange congestion started

Now I'm wondering if it really is congestion...

Yup, just checked my wife's 1mbps TI account, same problem - local ping 330ms, download 200kbps.

Ja. Weird how everything gets congested at certain times - and then miraculously clears... Unless we assume that our fellow net-users are as regimented in the surfing/downloading as what they are in their geyser/heater use [not bloody likely!].

Call me crazy - but I honestly think that our active web community is in reality small enough to be swayed by prominent word-of-mouth issues/perceptions about certain ISP's and particular packages - and like tourists moving around en masse on the roof of a small whale-watching vessel - those migratory patterns might actually have a direct impact on the ebb & flow of internet quality at different ISP's, at different times.

Ja. Like I said - crazy. :)

I'm not that big on networking, but would pings increase when throttled? I doubt it.
I think there are reconfigurations being done, but don't think we are being throttled. Haven't done any speed tests though.

That's a very interesting question - and I haven't the foggiest idea about Ping vs Throttling. Anyone else?

Not sure about the throttling statement,m still able to download at 2x acc speed

Does not compute
