LOL @ ranger trying to "incentivise" use of the business product instead of the consumer product. If you buy a bakkie, you can use it as you want. Nobody has the right to "incentivise" what you can use it for, unless they contributing to the payments. :D

No, we are incentivising more efficient use of the consumer product. If you use it more responsibly, you get more than if you don't.

And you don't need to add quotes. There is an incentive for the real abusers to not abuse 24x7.

You guys in the cape seem to have issues.

Probably a problem on the Tenet side. Symmetria isn't answering on IRC. Will probably have to log an FQ to SAIX so this can be resolved formally. WIll do that tomorrow if it hasn't been attended to by anyone else.

I have to agree with you ranger. I would also prefer to have more cache servers etc for international streaming. I find myself doing bulk downloads more after midnight these days. However most usage still comes from streaming

That said, my internet has been great today. Http dl flying, p2p great, youtube streaming 1080 without buffering and audio streaming has been rock solid. Wish it was like this all the time.

I have to agree here, my internet's been great as well this past week, at least once the changes took hold. Torrents are also heavily shaped, which is fine by me because I don't download much.

Keep up the good work @ranger!

Internet more or less useless. Downloads trickling along at 1-2 kilobytes per second. Local and international sites only loading after 8-10 refreshes. So not throttled, but being more or less cut off completely.

1 month in and already have to seriously consider swopping ISPs.

Man, just when I was thinking this internet stuff's got potential I got eaten by the shaping monster, now I'm thinking I should go back to 2Mbps capped, because 4Mbps uncapped is slower ?!?!?!

and I just signed up for a uncapped account with TELKOM, now reading this i am doubting the service

YMMV

My torrents are running fine.

Currently on 200GB for the month, 4Mbps uncapped on a very stable 6Mb line.

Edit: beaten by whatwhat :)

I will add my backup for Telkom.
I've only been with them for August so far.
Minor issues last week but since Thursday I haven't had any problems.
The only issues I had were between 6 & 10 and even then streaming was still perfect.

2mb uncapped on about 120gb.

What are you guys talking about?

We found the root cause of this this afternoon. Long story short, some routing changes by Google to fix routing to doubleclick.net and google-ads DNS servers resulted in a large proportion of Youtube traffic being routed differently. This had a knock-on effect on some other traffic.

We escalated to SAIX and Google, and this should have been fixed around 17h45.

Everything we have tested here seems ok, besides:
-We aren't back to the same level of Youtube traffic as before
-Routing to Google's caching DNS service at e.g. 8.8.8.8 from our ADSL IP ranges seems broken
-Routing to Google's authoritative DNS from our ADSL IP ranges seems broken

These issues have been reported as well.

Yesterday evening there was a notice about latency with LoL in client, it's possible those issues aren't fully resolved. Can't really comment on the LoL lag, my LoL only lags when doing other things on the internet which is sad because it didn't seem to be an issue until a month or so ago but could just be that my activity has changed...

I did get the youtube issue but it's back to normal again it seems.

Horrible "rubber-banding" lag in League of Legends

Unrelated as far as I know, if it was, it should have been fixed at 17h45. Please check LoL forums, in many cases when we try and investigate latency on LoL we find reports from all over the Southern Hemisphere (well, at least Aus and NZ and other SA ISPs).

Can you provide an example. SAIX has been working with Google over the past 30 or so hours on various peering issues. Fixing one yesterday made Youtube break other traffic, it seems reverting that broke some Youtube traffic. I have already reported that the change at 17h45 resulted in a drop in total Youtube traffic, but knowing which may help.
