Ouch.
Have you figured out what the problem is?

This is the reply i got from telkomza, afte they said my pc must be the 1 causing problems.

There is no guarantee on P2P in the product definition.

Due to consuming 40% of international bandwidth during peak times, we were forced to reduce international P2P.

Additionally, the abusive behavior of P2P software (creating in some cases thousands of connections) has an impact on our network and degrades the performance of all other users.

We will evaluate the improvements to network utilization, and after we have had 24 hours of no network-wide incidents, consider increasing the amount of bandwidth reserved for P2P during peak times and after hours.

In your case ,yourself and many other user's connected on your exchange might be doing the exact same thing running 24hr connections to P2P which would have a impact on the rest of the user's and the network in your area in which case the above will be done.

I dont download 24/7,only 8.This whole month havent used torrets and i still have slow speeds on them.

That is a pity. 99% of the time my dl are set to start at 00:00 and stop at 06:00 and I get speeds of about 375kB/s which is inline with my QoS. If I did not use my QoS, I would get 420kB/s which is my normal full speed.

Why not run your torrents from 00:00 to 06:00, you will likely get good speeds during that window. Or upgrade to usenet :D

Okay, so I upgraded to a 4mb line and 4mb Uncapped at the beginning of the month from 2mb/2mb uncapped.
The max download speed I was able to get was around 260Kb/s, with my Afrihost free 1gb I could get between 260-300Kb/s.
I've downloaded 348gb this month and since yesterday early morning I've been throttled to 0.4mbps. Strange thing is my Afrihost download speed is 400-420Kb/s now.

Does 348gb on a 4mb uncapped line constitute abuse?
I've averaged between 300-350gb a month on my 2mb uncapped without getting throttled the previous few months.

Also, not sure but isn't 4mb/10mb lines supposed to be throttled to 1mb?

I got a call from the Telkom Help Center today, the guy said I was being throttled because I'd done 300gb in the month, when I asked how that's possible when I'm on a 4mb uncapped package, he checked my account and told me I'm on 2mb uncapped.
I don't know why none of the 3 people I spoke to on Thursday morning couldn't tell me I was on a 2mb uncapped package.

I explained to him how when I upgraded at the beginning of the month that I checked and made the guy confirm that I was upgrading to a 4mb line and 4mb uncapped, he told me to phone the accounts department and have them correct their mistake.

I got accounts to correctly upgrade me to 4mb uncapped now.

Here's my Int. speedtest on my Telkom 4mb uncapped.

Same thing happened to me, but I was locked to a 1Mbps account and then when I eventually figured it out I changed it too 4Mbps, I got whacked with a double bill the next month.

10210 really is TI's "Achilles Heel" although incidents like this seem to be less common now than they were earlier in the year.

Pay 10 bucks extra for the phone line and phone the more competent 10217 instead

How do you go about getting Telkom to frack a fault? When I complain, all they ever do is re set my port.

If you move your line back, take the 25% discount, take the 4MB uncapped then you will get a further bundle discount.
In the end you will end up paying way less than what any other ISP can provide.

Your current LINE provider is still Telkom, no matter who you paying be it Afrihost or Axxess etc. All that ISP's do is log and track the fault on your behalf. They have no extra bargaining power with Telkom than you or I or anyone else for that matter.

Could someone please explain to me why I'm being throttled? I don't p2p or torrent only nzb(which I schedule 12 -6) and netflix during the night, My usage is orange and only used 101gb for the month...I thought the cap was 120gb on 1mb line? Did I miss something? thx

Yes, that's what I have. Afterwards you apply for the 25% adsl line discount and it comes to R386.45 a month ;)

How do you get to that amount? Telkom runs my line and they are my isp and I asked for the discount and they said they only give discount on the line rental part? Thus I will only save a couple of rands every month.

This is on a 1meg line and 1 meg uncapped. My total bill each months is R500 odd (before the discount). Does this sound correct?

Orange is not being throttled yet (only at red). As far as I know at orange the account is shaped more.

I'll post my latest sanitised bill tomorrow if I remember.

just remember to call accounts and give the fault number so that you are correctly billed for the error and will not be charged full price
