I will be cancelling Telkom Internet at the end of October, I'd rather use Mweb to be honest. If you want to use torrents out side of 00:01 and 06:00 then Telkom is definitely not what you are looking for - 12kbps at 8pm on a saturday.... ffs. Piss poor. I've done 25GB this month (mixed steam, torrents, http, streaming) and this is what I get.

That's just crap.
300gb on a 2mb account, mweb will throttle you to 0kb/s on 100gb.
Telkom is 10x better.
You clearly don't understand that Torrents are not a best effort service.
They are hogging the bandwidth on the networks.
It makes sense that they will be shaped to improve the network performance for the majority of people.

If you insist on using torrents during the day or outside of the torrent window then expect torrents to be shaped.
If however you are like many of us and have changed to alternate methods like nzb or http downloads then you will experience a good service.

I am able to download 24/7 if I so wish.
But it's not all hammering torrents.
Torrents if needed will run after hours.
nzb is all I need now though.
Full speeds without issues.

I agree with you fully, torrents should not be allowed to ruin the web experience for the rest of us, real time activities such as streaming and gaming need to have the highest priority. Why would anyone want to use torrents anyway, NZB/usenet trumps it in all regards.

and who made you the internet police to decide how other people should use their internet connection?

Fully agree. Torrents are for the lazy and noobs. Totally screws up bandwidth usage and is the most uneconomical way to download when bandwidth usage is an issue. Not to mention slowwww. 90% of torrented content originates from newsgroups anyway.

Does not take an internet policeman to figure that one out. Just plain logic. lrn 2 internetz or gtfo!

IPS's should consider offering packages with or without p2p usage. Charge the torrenters more for their abuse of bandwidth. Let them all play torrent-torrent on their higher premium account - let them pay for being lazy, ignorant, greedy or just plain inconsiderate.

That's a daft statement you made. Torrents are a distributed method of data sharing whereas usenet follows a strict client/server model. The only reason why usenet traffic does not does not outstrip torrent traffic is because usenet is a paid for service (which sadly back in the day it was not for the latecomers to the internet). So you have those sharing resources while the others pay for foreign resources, if usenet was free the reverse would be true.

If anything torrent based traffic is actually kinder to networks. I had a 45GB torrent going not to long ago and I noticed the majority of my leecher traffic originated in SA which is good for ISPs international bandwidth, majority of nzb traffic traverses international links as I don't know of any useful news servers in this country.

If local ISPs were clever they they would up their own news server storage space & retention days to like 1200 days as this would alleviate a schite load traffic on their international links.

Other problem with nzb's are the take down notices that can be a pain. I like both torrents & usenet but after the demise of nzbmatrix I've been using mostly torrents. I can't for the life of me understand why someone has not started up nzbmatrix again, surely they could just share the code with the world and you'll have a hundred clones popping up.

Beside the fact that you cant hook a torrent application up to 1 of the most amazing applications known to the INTERWEBZ... Without SickBeard, i dont know what i would do with my life... (Mind The Drama) i just think, how prehistoric i've been, like not knowing of such a thing like SickBeard and CouchPotato 7 some months ago... NZB FTW!!

I think im going to start a group: "For the LOVE OF NZB/USENET" [The name of the group is a working progress]

Look i dont disagree with you, Torrents can be fairly helpful for older content especially, i can also agree with you on the ISP Increasing the retention days to at least 1200 days, But... And its a big BUT.... I was using torrents for most of my Internet Uncapped day's, basically since i got my line back in 2011, i nailed my ADSL Line, at 1 point i was downloading dumb schite for Download sake, but then a couple months ago, started seeing alot of "ISP's Trying to clamp down on Pirates" "BLAH BLAH Trying get Torrent downloaders details from ISP's ETC" It never really bothered me much, coz, i mean, im probably 1/10000000000 PIRATES in South Africa, then i notice that torrents are being shaped, and im not getting much outta my ADSL... then some1 suggested i try NZB's, whic for the past 7 months have been really awesome, i get what ever i want, when ever i want, i get MAX line Speed anytime of the day (Even tho i got a schedule to start @ 22h00 and end @ 06h00 for my downloads) i havent even used a torrent in about forever... To your DMCA Takedown point, if you have Sickbeard and Couchpotato set up, and episode comes out generally very early in the AM, if by the time DMCA decides to take down the content, you would've already had it downloaded and in your Series/Movies folder, and the 3 NZB Providers i have, i've not only managed to keep up to date, (Mind you, this is just with the SAIX Server) but to also get old content that i needed to complete some episodes i was missing in my series folder...

You are wrong about Sickbeard and torrents. Someone on this forum helped me to do setup last weekend and it is going like a boeing.

I'm trying to grt Sickbeard and Nzbsa going. Not sure if
I nailed it yet. Will see tonight.

WOW, Ok, So i stand to be corrected, coz i've heard almost all over, including the SickBeard forum how badly Torrents intergrate with Sickbeard, nearly impossible, must've been a bug fix that ran or something because on the Sickbeard forum aswell as this forum somewhere, i just can remember where, i was informed how Sickbeard will never work 100% with a torrent application...

But with NZB, it works like you cant believe it... I dont even remember what the last Episode of a series i had to actually look for?

I'm not very clued up, but I think it is different version of Sickbeard and that is why I'm not sure if I will get thr Nzb's going with it.

Well put Ponder ;)

I personally find a mix between nzb's (free nzb sites like ninjacentral) and torrents get me all the content I need.

NZBSA is all I use and need. If there is a takedown, someone is bound to re-up the file with an encrypted file name which is impossible for the DMCA police to trace. That, and for R65 per month, I have access to 1900 days of retention at full line speed. Try finding as much stuff - that old - as torrents still being seeded / seeded enough to download at full line speed.

As for economical bandwidth usage... you will always use more bandwidth downloading a torrent as the uploads you contribute count as well. So for every download, the upload part becomes the unecesary / uneconmical factor. I have seen torrents crawling at 50kbps while uploading at 100kbps. And they will not always be to SA peers only. More than likely not.

Hi, Guys

Anyone else have issues with skydrive... when it starts uploading files whole connection seems to die... Stop skydrive and it is fine.

From what i have gathered it skydrive uploads look like peer to peer traffic for some reason.. an might be getting shaped - was complaining about ping times to axxess who manage my line and they were told by telkom that i was using peer to peer hence the issue...

Anyone with more info or using skydrive themselves.
