Awesome :)

I literally live next to the exchange (as in, it's actually blocking my view from my lounge windows, but as far as view-blockers go, an exchange is welcome any day :P)

Yay for Telkom putting exchanges in the middle of residential areas. (No hidden sarcasm intended)

Not sure what's up with Telkom but their download speeds are horrible. Browsing is fine and Youtube is fine most of the time.
But torrent speeds have done down the crapper. Even when just running from midnight to 6am.
I try my backup 1GB account from another ISP and bam, it speeds along.
Now my iTunes download is going along at 0-8KB spikes when it should be a smooth 400KB line.
So now my 2 videos totaling 6GB are going to take over 200+ hours it says.
WTF

AS far as i know, the "Shaped" only applies to your Downloads, according to a post by Ranger if im not mistaken, Gaming is prioritized to the highest especially at specific times of the day... Also, im on the package you mentioning here, and all i can say is...

SMILES ALL THE WAY!!!

Cool thanks! :D

I'm over this now... Phoned Telkom last night so they could help me with my evening lag and all the guy tells me is that my account is shaped so my gaming wont be good.... WTF! ive had this account for almost a year. its only recently its been giving trouble... I have no choice now to go to a different ISP... why cant they just help me? Its clearly TI thats the problem... I need help urgently...

Are you in the red on TItracker - https://secure.telkomsa.net/titracker/ ?

If so you need to schedule your downloads better or upgrade your account.

Will running my downloads between 12am and 6am have no effect on the TItracker? I'm very close to orange and would like not to be throttled.

Please elaborate? If you schedule them between midnight and 6am, is it not counted towards your usage? Also, what do you mean "upgrade your account"? To what?

Yes, a number of people have proven this theory in this thread, just have a look through older posts, if you run your downloads 24/7 your TiTracker bar gets to red much quicker than if you schedule your downloads from midnight till 6am, you also get more usage out of your line that way.

Also, what do you mean "upgrade your account"? To what?

My Guess is a Business Uncapped account with TI, yes you pay more, but you have less "restrictions" on your account...

Upgrade Account = move to a faster account - 1MB > 2MB > 4MB > 10MB Uncapped (the amount of data you can download in a month effectively doubles with each upgrade).

Midnight - 6am data weighting? Data downloaded in this period on capped accounts is definitely free & unlimited (night surfer). Ranger has hinted that something similar applies to uncapped and some members have reported that downloading in this period has increased their Orange/Red GB threshold.

Streaming Netflix doesn't take you to red as quick as Torrents would, I take it? (Hypothetically, let's assume both use the same amount of data per hour, on average)

You right about that hey, Streaming GOOD.... Torrents... NOT SO GOOD, especially 24/7....

Install and setup XBMC, all the streaming tv, movies and series you could ever want and more.
Plus it wont kill your usage tracker. Awesome news all round.

EDIT: forgot about cokeand popcorn :D

Agreed! Only thing though, for the life of me, i cannot find proper Add On's for those things, but XBMC is a good 1 though, especially for news and stuff, no need for SABC at all or MONOCHOICE!

I'm not a gamer hence not qualified to comment.

From what I've read on the various uncapped threads Openweb seems to be the ISP of choice for gaming so you might consider a trial account with them.
