Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

I'm thinking about moving over to telkom internet, will be using a 10 meg line.
Just wanted to inquire what twitch.tv streaming is like at 720p+?
Also international latency's for games like wow, path of exile etc.

I would appreciate feedback on whether users going through the Cape Town site have seen an improvement since Tuesday morning. When posting, if your location isn't set, please give an idea of your location, or post a traceroute so I can identify the site you are going through.
Internet's been flawless all week, actually - but tonight things went to hell a bit. Browsing is extremely slow, yet traceroutes are fine. Speedtest showed 3.1mbps on my 4mbps line (a bit low, but not too bad, it usually gives about 3.6mbps). Still, browsing resembles 56k modem days.

As you can see, nothing indicating a major issue there. Weird. The slow browsing started at around 8 or 9pm, and is still ongoing (11pm right now).

Thanks for the feedback, the hard work you guys put in is noticed and appreciated. You got me quite curious when you talk about "other product enhancements in the pipeline", btw...

Thank you for the update and the hours you put in into this.

As I have been leading the Cape Town fire squad over recent performance, I must say, that there is definitely a big improvement since Tuesday. Streaming (Netflix) is lightening fast again, p2p download speeds are up again. I had some issues with my HTTP downloads timing out/not completing before Tuesday but I haven't tested this since. I am sure those are probably resolved now. Thanks for the feedback. :)

Sorry for not having responded to issues on this thread in the past week.

Unfortunately we have a very busy schedule this month, with a lot of late-night changes, many of them aimed at fixing issues you are experiencing, or preventing them from happening in the future with other product enhancements that are in the pipeline.

We have been experiencing some capacity issues on our traffic management platform. Those were resolved for our Cape Town site with an upgrade performed on Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Our Gauteng site (also serving KZN at present) didn't have as bad a problem, so it was not the priority, and we have some other network upgrades to complete this weekend. There will be maintenance on Friday night/Saturday morning, and Saturday night/Sunday morning. If all the changes we did last weekend in preparation for this change work correctly, there should be minimal impact during the changes, except possibly when we test failover.

The upgrade for the traffic management platform in our Gauteng site is planned for next week, the exact day hasn't been decided on yet. There is almost no impact to users during this upgrade, equipment is on-site, and we are finalising the last details required to get the hardware ready to go in. If all other changes go well this weekend, we may be able to do this upgrade early next week, but worst case is by next weekend.

Unfortunately the first change on the past weekend went quite badly, so we ended up with additional change windows, and there wasn't time to get to responding to PMs. Also, we're behind on a few projects, so it really has been too much work and not enough play for the past two weeks.

I would appreciate feedback on whether users going through the Cape Town site have seen an improvement since Tuesday morning. When posting, if your location isn't set, please give an idea of your location, or post a traceroute so I can identify the site you are going through.

Just a side note. I don't think this is Telkom specific, but does anyone else experience that Supersport buffers like every 30 secs and then goes again. I'm on 4mb uncapped and everything else works flawlessly so it would be nice if I can find the root cause. As I currently can stream super sport through smart tv, I'd prefer to use super sport and not other international streams via pc.

Edit:

Sorry noticed this just now :

Apparently a problem from the Supersport website side. All ISP's experience this. Sucks

And, all traffic we can detect as gaming traffic *also* has the same priority.

Hi Ranger. The above interests me. How would that comment of yours relate to the inclusion of Microsoft XBox live and SONY PSN server Ip's?

Thanks

Also would be interested in the answer.

Feedback for Ranger:
Torrents did well through the night.
Supersport is horrible this morning (cricket)

I can't recall all the local sites that struggled, not that there were a many, but MyBB was one of them. It is not constant, but happened about 3 times per day, the last week for me. Everything just stands still for minutes.

I don't have enough knowledge to understand if it is a TI issue or somewhere else. Just posting my current experiences.

Kirkwood 4Mbps

TI definitely an issue atm with Supersport.
Changed to a backup ISp and no buffering issues at all.
It ran well yesterday till about 12:00 and then it began stuttering every second and it hasn't changed since then.

Its not a Ti issue, streaming on SuperSport has been erratic across all ISP's.
Check the thread below, it looks like the issue is with the way SuperSport streams its content.
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...for-Supersport-streaming-Does-this-make-sense

That still dont explain how it worked with a different ISP, might just have been a fluke

You might be right, but it worked 100% yesterday from 08:00 up to about 12:00 and then it started having buffering issues, but I had to do something else so I stopped watching. This morning it still had the same buffering issue as yesterday. I stutters about every second and with my backup account it has no issues. That seems to me to be ISP related.
Wether it is on SS's side or TI's side I can not answer.
I'm just giving feedback with the hope that Ranger can improve my experience.

Anyone had issues using Telkom Internet using special characters in Passwords?

Windows 8.1 download is going quite slow on our tablet atm : /. <50KB/s on 1 meg line, speedtest maxes though.
