Torrents are dead slow but big thanks to Bash for providing a solution ;)
On the other hand HTTP downloads have been flying! View attachment 83305
YouTube streaming has been great, NNTP averaging aroung 75-80% of line speed.

I guess I can live with the low torrent speeds as long as the rest of the protocols continue to perform like this.

And that is?

Okay so to summarise:
TI can't afford international bandwidth anymore, so no more torrents during 07:00 - 00:00.
Even 00:00 - 06:00 is lately iffy.

There is sufficient capacity from 01h00 to 06h00. There is a minimum capacity reserved for P2P at all times, as it has been since February. Maybe there are just more people trying to use that minimum capacity.

I can't get Youtube to run on 144p, without buffering issues every 15 seconds.

In most cases, Youtube should be local. It may help if you used a traffic monitoring tool to see what IP address Youtube is being served from.

My download speed does not exceed 326kB/s on http - general driver downloads, etc.

Please post a traceroute to the hostname in the URL of said http driver download.

Gaming ping in general up to **** according to other posters.

I wouldn't say in general, as 'other posters' are yet to provide details, while gaming traffic is prioritised on our network.

Hi there ranger - I`ve asked multiple times on the ADSL page but TelkomZA are choosing to ignore me. Maybe you can help. Can Telkom please provide a dynamic list of known congested exchanges in ZA ? There`s so much troubleshooting going on all over the place to investigate slow speeds and quite often it`s as a result of congestion. I`ve been fighting with my ISP , replacing a router and filters and spend hours looking for the reason my speeds are dropping. Now a Telkom techie told my we have congestion on our exchange. Why not be transparent about this and save everyone some time and money ?

When it comes to scheduling bulk downloads on uncapped - is the consensus that the time to do such things is during 00:00 and 06:00?

What is the policy behind this pertaining to the uncapped accounts.

It's easy enough to check for yourself. Run speedtest.net and if the ping value is constantly above 100 or more, it indicates congestion. You can then call 01210 and ask report a problem with a high ping rate and slow browse rate.

easy enough for techies that frequent here yes. Not so much for plenty users that never come here. Post it as part of the Telkom outage notifications I say. Surely more info is better than less ?

How likely is it for non techies to look at Telkom outage notifications? Not very IMHO.

So in your opinion it`s rather better for this information not to be in the public domain ? Not sure if I understand your comments correctly ? I`m paying through my neck for my data line , Telkom force me to take a voice line and pay for that even if I don't use it. Due to congestion ( and dare I say bad planning ) I cant use my line ( yeah yeah I know... it`s up to ) as I used to in the past but the information should be hidden from the customers ? No thanks for censorship.

Ranger / TelkomZA - what is going on guys ?

6PM rolls around and once again streaming protocols are crawling.

There must be an answer - what is happening to shaping during these times and recent weeks ? It's making your product crappy.

Please explain how you jump to that conclusion.
