I haven't used saix for nzb lately as I have a usenetbucket account
I noticed last night that saix clearly shapes nntp downloads.
4mb line was downloading at around 250kb/s whereas my usenetbucket account downloads at full speed normally around 433kb/s.

Just food for thought really.

I meant with the "No. of connections?" comment that it's not really shaping but the number of connections, usenetbucket: 25, saix: ?

Yea, but that usenetbucket offer does look tempting :)

I got my 2mb line and uncapped account from TI yesterday. Here are some points from my experiences so far.

1. Browsing seems fine, streaming from YouTube seems great too.

2. Downloading from Steam seems terrible. Managed to pull around 3.2gb last night over about 8 hours (10PM-6AM), it seems VERY unstable and spiky (it must have stabilized for a while while I was asleep). One second it is ~230kbps, next second ~80, then 0, the ~150.

3. Just tried torrenting. Non existent. Ok I knew they shape this heavily and one can only really torrent between 12AM-6AM (from what I have read).

Here is my speedtest http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3160960281
Haven't tried gaming online yet but from what I have read it does not seem great at the moment. Hopefully these comments are just due to some problem they have at the moment which is hopefully gonna be resolved soon.

I am really disappointed about the Steam downloading. Was hoping this would be a bit better.... Is this normal for TI?

Considering a switch to TI myself so can't comment on what's normal, but what server are you on in Steam settings?

Are there different servers (as in not gaming servers)? Sorry I am relatively new to Steam... Where do I check?

EDIT: Nevermind. Found it. My DL Region is South Africa: Johannesburg

EDIT 2: Tried all the Johannesburg servers. All are unstable and spiky.

I feel a bit foolish now:

Spoke to Mr Gaming @ IS and his feedback is that nobody in South Africa hosts any steam content servers. Apparently Valve did away with the servers and moved to CDNs, (as per Tinuva's response earlier) and using the selection box in Steam no longer functions in any event. IS do however host Akamai CDNs on their network.

Valve still need to remove the various ISPs from the steam download list though, but if you look on http://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/ as Tinuva pointed out, South Africa is no longer listed.

ALso, can anyone please point me to a good free bandwidth monitoring tool with proper logging? Graphs would also be nice as a feature :D But I won't be too picky. I have tried two I found searching Google but they were very average.

It'd better now on this side as well. It wasn't at all though a good 15 minutes before I posted. It got better about 5 minutes after posting.
