Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Well I'm trying to download Avast which is an 87MB download. Projected time to download - 24 hours
 
You know you're in Africa when you can't stream internet radio (128kbps) on a 10MB line which costs almost R1000 a month.
 
Switched back to Telkom DNS servers just now (was on Google DNS) and things are still crapping out once you hit the Telia connection.

TelkomZA's twitter page is also on fire today, lots of people complaining about connectivity or slow international speeds. Meh.
 
Has Telkom given any indication WTF is wrong with their network yet? 300 to 1000pings to UK games sites.
 
If I was a current employee of Telkom I'd be busting a gut to keep us informed so as not to be part of the one third projected cut backs. Even the possibility of this doesn't appear to shake any ones tree. Was fine from around midnight until 0800 today (as in previous days) and then gone to pot. Western Cape, Darling exchange.
 
Was just on the line to them again. Apparently not my usage (duh) and i haven't been throttled (duh). However, when asked whether they have heard or followed up about the terrible international connections, I was told that they were not aware of any issues. So I told the guy about the international servers bombing out and people complaining here and on Twitter. I insisted that I could not be the only one complaining and he said "well yours is the first I've heard of today, I'm not aware of any widespread issue with slow connections". Thanks Telkom. My local speeds now are sitting at about 200kbps down with 100ms latency, international at 80kbps down with 600ms latency. Even the call center agent went "wow, those are terrible connection speeds..."

strange I just phoned them to and the agent was aware of the problem. mine has been slow for 5 days now. strangely enough after the call I am now full speed again. Dunno what they did or how long its going to last.
 
I'm testing out a 5+5 GB account with the idea to switch to a 2mb or 4mb uncapped in FEB. The performance sucks ass.
 
I was typing out a message about how my connection was back to normal and then I noticed, in the background, 1200 latency on dota.
My speed(and some latency) does seem to be back to normal, though.

Tomorrow will probably bring the same thing again but I suspect that from Monday everything will be just as bad, if not worse, than before.

There is no point testing a capped account if you are planning to get an uncapped account. It's a completely different service with different routing etc (to lower cost)
The current problem everyone is discussing is happening on both capped and uncapped though so the current performance is not a good indicator.
If you want my advice go with a different ISP. Even if it costs you a bit more.

I was with MWEB uncapped for 2 years. The Telkom capped account should be faster than the Telkom uncapped account. But like you say, there is something wrong with the whole network. Ping of 600+ to local Telkom speed test server in CPT and 15Kb download. MSAN 300- meters from my house, excellent stats.
