Oddly, wouldn't Telkom Mobile/8ta use the same backbone, so shouldn't it experience the same problems? (which it isnt)

Depends on your definition of backbone. Yes, mobile also uses SAIX for transit, but on different IP blocks.

The issue earlier was with *our* international links (to saix), not saix's international links. There is a remaining problem that we haved proved that the problem is caused by traffic of a third party impacting us. We are working with all parties to a resolution.

We don't know if this problem affects mobile, it is not thay easy to detect, and may be specific to some IP blocks.

sorry if I am being a bit daft
your international links to saix?

so basically TI is dependent on SAIX for international transit but connect to SAIX through links in SA

Amazing it took all of 20 minutes would have been a feww seconds but telkom adsl drop three times while trying and suddenly I have a stable working network.
"There is a remaining problem that we haved proved that the problem is caused by traffic of a third party impacting us. We are working with all parties to a resolution. " So in other words give us another week of crap service and maybe just maybe we will get it right? Did you not tell everyone the problem would be resolved yesterday at 17h30 or was it the day before?

My internet is just fine here in Cape Town :)

Ohh the reason why the speed isn't full 4meg, is because our area's exchange gets loaded at night when everyone is at home, but during the day the speed is 4meg all the way! ;) Would be nice if Telkom (not Telkom internet) can upgrade our exchange.

Come again?

TI uses SAIX just like any of the other ISPs going via them.

There are multiple ways to buy capacity from SAIX.

The description I have given is as accurate as I can provide without making it possible to guess who the third party is.

Lol. Must be Afrihost... International latency on my capped account is about 40ms less than what I'm used to.

My internet has been bad all day, ping has been over 500ms to local servers. And this problame is the same for all three my accounts. I have an account with telkom, mweb and afrihost. And I have the same problem on all of them slow dl speeds like 0.23mb and high pings.

a tracert i did to google on my afrihost account.

That dear sir is exchange related. Your second hop is freakishly high.

Edit: Lokl... I have never seen a trace as bad as that.

And here I thought I have problems.

Well their has never been a congestion problame at the exchange. My internet has been fine the whole day. This high ping and slow speed only started happening at around 17:00

In the post above this one you said your internet has been bad all day and in this one you say it has been fine until 17:00.

Well telkom internet has been bad all day, that's why i use the trail mweb account, but now the ping is over 500ms on mweb account too

If it isn't exchange congestion then half your line was cut by a thief who forgot to finish.

Seeing as you say it only started at ~17:00 and the same issue occurs on multiple ISP accounts, clearly indicates something wrong between your line, your exchange (?) and whatever node your exchange connects to.

It is an MTN network according to the tracert, so... There might be a couple hundred people watching a new season of a series that just came out on their phone in your area? Or maybe they are doing upgrades or have some other problem. Who knows. That isn't in Telkom's ball park as far as I know.

Make sure your other ISP accounts aren't connecting to the mtn network too due to some sort of network route issue.
