Telkom introduces new flat-rated calling plans

It's a pity that PrepaidFone customers cannot make use of Telkom CLOSER.

Telkom now have to beg us to make phone calls - after killing the telephone. I remember when - we would make calls for pleasure - with no real consideration of cost... nowadays I consider whether cheaper and better to get in my car and drive!

telkom sucks so bad they are reversing the expansion of the universe!!

Will a 30 sec call in Call More time cost R1.40 under option 1?

It sure sounds that way.
Local and national calls...hhmmm...
I'm too lazy to work out the costs and whatever but it sound like this "plan"
would only be worth it if a oke stays up all night,
every night talking to like four maybe five guys who stay up all night as well,
otherwise not worth it.

I could be wrong through, like I said too lazy too work it out..., BUT...

an INTERNET ADD-ON???
WTF IS THAT???
surely the internet would work on these plans with out this so called add-on.
Dialup is basically a phone call isn't it?

Oh and congratulations on your 20000 sucke.. I mean customers though how you managed this
without advertising (I only heard about this on MYADSL)
I'd love to know.

I see....

Telkom Closer Plan 2 - unlimited callmore or... wait for it... R40 per hour in normal time!!!!! (about double the current rates) and no internet.... and call catcher enabled means that you will always pay the R1.40 per call - even when you don't get thru... brilliant! not.
Telkom Closer Plan 1 - R120 per month gives you calls on a landline at cellphone rates... duh
Plan 3... well.. what can we say... aaahhh it costs R300 per month? without internet?

Internet add on... R1 per minute... what do they think were dofffff
My bad - *EDIT* R1 per hour... plus ISP fees of which min 75% to telkom...

So... what we have here is average joe subsidising the long distance calls made by business (mainly) Unfortunately for the poor of this country it means more coughing up so that those who make long distance calls can be subsidised... oh what am i saying... we all use skype...

Anyone have parents who still use dial-up? Set up that old pots modem on your xp box and share your adsl - let them dial up to you on your now defunct analog portion of your adsl line and use internet thru your adsl...

BTW... what does this mean for those who don't want it? Will it be forced on us all along with the ADSL rental?

Telkom CLOSER Internet Add-On

Customers who subscribe to any one of the calling plans qualify for an Internet add-on. A rental fee of R150 per month secures 150 local Internet dial-up hours per month during Callmore time.
I don't get it - is that R150 on top of the R300/R145/R120 for the plan?
Why would you pay R150 extra if you get unlimited calls anyway?
Or will they now differentiate between voice calls and calls to the isp?

Edit:
yes they do, from their website:
Telkom CLOSER only applies to normal fixed line calls and excludes Internet, International and mobile calls.

Ok lets say for a moment that this is a good deal, and that the consumer get more value for the same amount of money. The fact still remains that this you have to fork out a minimum of R200.00 (80+120) per month before you made a call. How the can a poor person afford that? Telkom you are still as expensive as hell.

This is the old Telkom OneRate calling plan. It's been around since December. If you have a family of 4, and don't need dialup, it saves!! We've got Option 3 on our main line, and Option 2 on our spare line and the phone bill has come down SO much! The only hassles is the 1 hour time limit, but all you do is hang up and call again :p Must admit, OneRate was a better name than Telkom CLOSER:rolleyes:

:

Thy have a database of ISP numbers.. when I still used ISDN + R7 call i remember the bills used to say ISP calls or something like that.

You pay double for Local now ??

Ok so,
During standard time local calls are 38 c per min and Long distance are 80 c per min. Now with the new plans, during standard time the loca will cost almost twice as much. If you average 38 and 80 it comes to 55. These plan is only useful for people who make more Londistance calls than local. If you make more local calls than Long distance then you pay double. Yikes !!

Am I right guys or am I missing something?

Not good enough Mr. Telkom. Unfortunately, not impressed.

And why only allow hourly calls? That's the dumbest I've ever heard. I agree with one of the posts on page 1, free unlimited local calls would be the only thing that wil impress me. crash and burn

I'm not impressed either. It looks like you'd really have to do a lot of talking just to break even. Could it just be another scheme to trick users into coughing up more dough

yeah it's not perfect, but way better than what we've been subjected to before. so let's commend them for finally waking up after a decade and realising that fixed-rate is the way the rest of the world has gone. if your phone bill comes to over R300 per month without internet then it's worth a look. now let's hope sno doesn't distinguish between peak and off-peak and introduces a fixed rate regardless of time of day. that would make things more interesting

Dang it! I hate Telkom just as much as anyone but RTFA!! (read the &*$@ article).

If I read it right, these bundles include the line rental, so you pay the R92.28 line rental, and then you pay just under R30 extra on top of that for the Plan 1 or around 50 extra per month for the Plan 2.

Option #3 looks GOOD except..

* If cap is reached, normal per second billing as per distance band as per time of day will apply.

Does this mean 68c/minute ? Still gonna do a run thru past bills to calc time used avg day time and check if exceed 1000min

Important thing is this is inclusive of rental!! if only adsl was like this too

All these plans include home line rental and Call Answer in the price
A rental fee of R150 per month secures 150 local Internet dial-up hours per month during Callmore time
so, if the rental is covered in all of these plans, what are you then "renting" extra at R150 a month?
is it just me or does that make no sense at all?!

working thru those itemised billing stuff, so far we avg 650-750 but do peak once at 1100(builders) standard time minutes thus due to line rental inclusion, Option 3 Closer package is worth it, saving rental + R150+ =~ R250+ yay

Uhm it says price is inclusive of rental, so I'll ask em again nxt time i see them
Now to order.. dang they forgot to add it to their online order form

I use adsl so don't need that dial up
