Can anyone please explain to me what I am paying Telkom interest for,
as I've tried to work it out, but the answer evades me.

(Please see link for my latest Telkom invoice)

Only thing I can think of is that your payment of R2710 occured after the previous due date.

I paid 1.7k on 25 Oct and the rest on 14 Nov, but does this mean that they charge interest on stuff I pay upfront for? I've got ADSL and Closer, so I have to pay upfront for my services, only cellphone calls gets charged after the fact.

Did you perhaps buy a router/phone etc on your Telkom account?
I know that you can choose to pay for a router etc over 3/6/9 months etc and that is when they'll add interest.

Just 'cause they can...and it's so tedious trying to resolve the problem that most people just give in and pay...and they just get away with it...absolutely no meaningful consumer protection in the Rip Off Republic of SA:(

They put protection on the account only for the amount in dispute. (been there)
I complained about the 400 odd rand they charged me for moving my line to a new
location after they told me it would be done for free.
Got the 400 refund after 3 months of explaining. (each time someone else)
BUT during the last month they cut my line 3 times cause there's no communication
between Telkom's "departments" regarding the refund, so they charged me 3 times
reconnection, cancelling out the refund.
Soooo, try explaining to them that they now need to refund the 3x connection fee
because it was disconnected because of a fault with their billing ..... etc.
I've given up for now, as I need to get some work done and cannot afford to spend days on the phone, but I will prob. try and
get my 400 odd back at some point.

Yes they do:mad:. Unless the full balance is settled by the due date interest is automatically calculated.
