Telkom issues with gaming

I was playing local CS:GO last night. Ping jumped from 20ms to 300 and down again. Switched to Afrihost again, and steady as you like

Maybe i should switch to Afrihost then BUT what about international servers. I play alot with guys from Sweden and OMG if i get another lag/ping spike to 1000 im gonna die

I am still using my trail MWEB account that expired 2 days ago. I have no lag on international servers any time of the day.

You could use a trail account for the time being while you look for another ISP. My telkom account takes 30 days to cancel...

Well, I can't speak for CS:GO, but I activated the 1GB free account from Afrihost, and every online game I've played (LoL, Diablo 3, WoW, PoE) the ping has stayed at around 190-210ms.

If u get that with D3 then CS:GO will be the same. Will activate tonight. Tnx much :-)

So the constant terrible lag has been replaced with viscous spikes as mentioned above. Is it safe to assume that no new information is available regarding this?

So not sure if this thread is the place to be, but when playing lol, I have high lag on a PER GAME basis (via adsl). This seems to mean that somehow some servers of Riot is affected by something and some are not.

I think this is Telkom related, because when moving to 3g I'll be at playable speeds, but 3g being 3g means I am still zoning out every now and then, so not stable either (but at least playable).

Yes I have the same problem. Some games will be perfect and then randomly some will be at 600+ latency. Its so weird and theres no way to tell whether you have lag or not so every game is a risk.

It seems to happen more frequently when queuing up with other south africans, but that could just be confirmation bias on my part.

I'm with telkom and I've noticed that after 11.30pm and before 7am'ish my latency to eu servers drops to its normal 200-250ms... anything during day or actual time I normally play online (8pm'ish) is pointless, I sit at around 800ms and spike to 2.5k ms every few minutes. Don't know what to do anymore. This was never a problem, only the last 6-8 weeks. Strange thing is, when I trace to servers, all is fine, 250ms etc, but in game, no matter what game, its 800ms+.

Been thinking its time to drop telkom and go for something else, but not sure which as there seems to be various conflicting reports of bad ms for most isps. The only reason I got adsl was for my gaming, but at the moments it seems to be a waste of time... Any recommendations would be appreciated.

1. Call Telkom, wait 50 minutes for the phone to answer and cancel your contract.

2. Get a free trail account. There is a few ISP's that allows you to create a trail account.

3. Switch to a new ISP. I recommend MWEB. They do not throttle Gaming traffic, as most other ISP's

Stephan - mweb don't throttle gaming traffic??
Have you not read the thread complaining about massive throttling on mweb?

move along

I guess I should just grab all the trials and try em one at a time... But one thing is for sure, telkom is not it. Sadly I read the article about telkom looking for help with bad media and as many state there, provide the service and bad media will go away, instead though, they'll fork out millions on a campaign to fix the bad image.

I used the MWEB trail account for about 2 weeks and I have never had any throttling on my side. I know there is some games that they do throttle that is not played by many people. I have tested it throughout the day, and I have never seen any throttling on games. I know for sure that Telkom throttles gaming traffic up till 12 AM in my area.
