Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

So my two Lit boxes are now worthless and the same thing can happen to the other devices in the future? Do you think it is safer to buy the Apple Tv ? More expensive but al least you can expect better service from the company? My Roku is working well after all these years but not compatible with Dstv. So I wasted a lot of money on cheaper devices ..

Well, seeing as I have 3 starting at R1 in an auction on Wednesday I guess we can get a gauge as to what the worth it.

Technically - yes Nology can release an Ematic firmware for the LiT that will keep it going.
Legally - no.

It would great if we can get the bloat pre packaged version of Netflix completely removed from the Lit Boxes. Then you can load a previous version of the Netflix apk that does not do a ESN check.

Even when you uninstall com.netflix.ninja using adb shell in developer mode there are still remanence of the app
in
packages.xml
packages.list
/data/data
/system/app
and
AndroidManifest.xml

which sadly all requires root access to delete or entries removed. :-(

Im not sure about Apple TV. They already have their own channel and then they own Disney with Disney+ basically launching soon. They may dump Netflix as well.

Dont know why its soo moody with media player software, since its just an android box, but netflix works on all phones. A real headache honestly. I have a kwese player (Disconnected) a Roku (support dropped, disconnected for the model I had), then now the Lit box, and yesterday I got a notification on my Samsung Smart TV (older model, netflix wont run on there anymore).

So Showmax, Amazon Prime, and VIKI it will be. Will just have to pirate the netflix items

No, they can't technically keep it going even if they wanted to.

A Netflix device has a unique electronic serial number baked into the FW. That serial number is also blocked from accessing.

The first Skyworth Android TV's are google certified and came preinstalled with Netflix and worked fine.
Same as telkom Lit the specific model lost the Netflix licence and Netflix stropped working and you couldn't uninstall either.

Skyworth later released a OTA that allowed you to uninstall Netflix completely and that in turned allowed you to run an older Netflix APK that doesn't do a licence validity check.

So for those that wants to know, there is a not so great workaround but you can get Netflix to work with kodi 19 and the CastagnaIT repo, you just have to edit the ESN in KODI for it to work.

Stock ESN reads : NFANDROID2-***-******-*****-****=***-****-

Edit it by changing the "NFANDROID2" to "NFANDROID1" so it looks like this:
NFANDROID1-***-******-*****-****=***-****-

I was specifically talking about the Ematic FW running on the LIT - which won't work because of the ESN.

Homatics Box Q is around R1299 at PnP so some smart shopper points could help if you have a a large amount

So, in terms of replacements - there is the Ematic (leaning towards it, due to similarity to Litbox); Xiaomi Mi box; Xiaomi Mi Stick (anybody got this one?); Maverick and Apple TV. Who has done the homework?

Google Chromecast with Google TV

If you not into DSTV/Showmax a FireTV stick 4k or newer 4k MAX, then of course always a Shield TV Pro :)

Can correct me if I'm wrong - but regarding Netflix, these devices are uncertified and you have all the issues described above ?
So decent hardware, but for that KM9 Pro is also pretty shoddy for Netflix then ?
Works, KM9 also faster than Ematic
Both Certified

May I asked...is there any way forward to keep the Telkom LID box and that Netflix will word on it with a work around...or is time to go and buy a new Android Box?

I bought one of these last week. I still haven't tested it out properly yet.

Interesting.

So you say say latest Netflix UHD HDR is no issue? You've tried this?
Is it this one that Netflix hasn't approved ?

Mine has been switched off since getting a x96 air and running coreelec with Seren.

Netflix is just watched in the TV app. UHD with Dolby vision on a hisense

Installed Netflix & updated the new one I got & works perfectly
Everywhere I've read says it isn't.

Do have a UHD HDR screen and see the below?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but it would be terrible for guys to sell the LIT and buy another box with Netflix issues as well.
