Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

To add a sideloaded app to your "app and games" row on the home screen you can download a app called TV App Repo which allows you to create a shortcut.

Thanks, this is great!

How do I get Tv Settings to work again?
I have been successful by going to settings, apps, tv settings and clearing cache and memory, then force-closing the app. After a reboot it was working fine.

Anybody realistically expect an OTA update on this Lit Box ? Very few Android devices receive this from manufactures. Awaiting Multichoice to cater for the Android TV operating system is probably another pipe dream.

This is my thinking as well. Which is why I haven't pulled the trigger to buy this yet.

If you are waiting for Multichoice to provide an android tv app then you will be waiting for a loooooooooong time... Then you are better off sticking with a decoder...

The DSTV Now app is in the works ... no ETA, but it's close.

Ok guys about to bite the bullet just a few questions.

1. Does DSTV now work? Saw there was a dimming issue and a work around but is it fixed properly? And will i need to side load latest version?

2. Everything fine in netflix land?

3. Kodi i see is fine so thats cool.

1. Shortly an official version

2. Nope.

3. Yup :)

Is it possible "lock" the LIT's output resolution? Reason I ask: I'm getting close to being able to upgrade my ADSL line speed and I need to decide which speed is going to the best value.

Currently the downloaded tv series, in particular, that I watch at 480p are decently watchable - even on my 55" tv and on my 2MB ADSL I can watch youtube videos also at 480p with no buffering - problem is that when I'm jamming some online gaming and the SO wants to watch something off the LIT box at 720p, what would be the minimum line speed I should be looking at to eliminate either of us having any lag / buffering issues?

4Mbps line is perfect for 720p and 1080p(depending the distance between your house and Telkom box)

So, looking at this remote thing.
The airmouse thingy is bluetooth, not IR, so there's nothing to learn with the harmony. I've asked SDMC if they will release remote infrared protocol info...
I am going to try using the USB IR receiver I used for my HTPC in the meantime... will report back.

Playing around with games today. Xbox360 controllers works well. Connected via usb microsoft wireless connector. Didnt even need to connect to the mini usb OTG slot. Tried the mini usb (OTG?) slot with an OTG cable and several usb devices but no luck. So the one normal sized usb slot seems to be OTG and not the mini one as it says in the leaflet that comes with the device. Which begs the question...what is the mini slot good for?
