Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

AV cable (out) with Dstv Now app - No video, only audio

Did anyone try connecting the Lit Tv Box to an old CRT tv via the AV out?

Mine works 100% until I try streaming any video using "Dstv Now" - Then it's only audio and a black screen.

Is this maybe their attempt at content protection or something?

Btw. Kodi etc. works 100% ...

A guess - Macrovision encoding ... , any one got a Macrovision decoding unit to test with ?

Might be - but Microvision normally scrambles the video - this is just a black screen with audio - and ONLY when attempting to play video using the Dstv Now app.

Obviously, the Dstv callcenter has got no clue. They actually asked me for my smart card number in order to check my details after asking them this question. I guess it is the standard reply if they have no clue???

Hmm ... , maybe they want to check if you are a subscriber, if not, they are not obligated to make any effort to help you and can tell you to take your problem and go play on highway with it. If you are a subscriber, then they have to get up of their rear ends and find a solution - not that they have a clue - but I suppose a token attempt is good enough for them.

You did check that the video cable is not defective?

If you have login details for DSTV now app, you can get the smartcard# from the website. At least last time I checked I could.

Have not looked that hard yet - but I had to log into DSTV Now again, yesterday, when I used remote to enter App, not happened before in the month I been using it.
 
Dim LiT [low stock or none at all]

Hey guys,

Cousin in Pretoria went to his nearest Telkom Direct store and couldn't buy the box. Apparently 3k back order due to that R599.00 uncapped promo Telkom ran recently. I checked at our town and also back orders from 15 Jan, hoping to get one for him then courier it up. :D

@Dolby or anyone else have any ETA and perhaps if Telkom maybe tuning the devices coming :whistle: ? Would like to see them introduce one with the 4G module if feasible.

4G module would be nice if mobile data was somewhat cheaper.

HDCP protection.

Only works over HDMI.

Exactly what I was thinking - that means no android device will be able to use an av cable for dstv now... great. Not that I want to copy or steal anything - I only want to be able to use the box with an older tv.

Go figure, content protection. What no-one other than the content provider want ... it just keeps complicating our lives ...

and ironically HDCP is to protect HD content. DSTV now hardly counts as that.

There are things like the gadget from Easy Cap HDMI recorder - a schlep to use but if you really want to copy the stream - there are ways around their miserable copy protection. Idiots.

There are no plans at all ... but I've seen an LTE / Android box from SDMC
 
I was at an event called Africacom last year and they were displaying a host of items there ... Different models, remotes etc
 
Connection

Hallo.

The LIT TV box is not being picked up by my older tv. Although it picks up the dstv decoder I have no such luck with the box.
Please help.
