This is what I could gather about the update. There are multiple steps (as most here already know
To update the High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) is quite an involved process and is executed in three steps:
1. Comms module upgrade which will auto-reboot your device – without much warning.
2. Upgrade to firmware version
8.2.36 which is an interim firmware update. The device will start downloading in the background, once ready to upgrade you will see a prompt. Given that this step takes the box from Android 7 to Android 8 (major change) the box requires to be factory reset, thus backup any data you might want to hang onto. If your box is connected via Ethernet cable it will proceed automatically to the last step (if DHCP enabled), but if using Wi-Fi, you will have to connect it to your AP again before the final firmware will download.
(don’t setup anything else at this stage as the box will be wiped again). Sometimes the box will boot and hangs on a “Telkom LIT” splash screen, in this event disconnect power and reconnect.
3. Upgrade to final firmware version
8.2.38 – this is the Netflix certified firmware. Again it will download in the background and give you a prompt to upgrade firmware. Again it will factory reset (due to HDCP rules).
The LIT_Box box will now be on 8.2.38 with a new layout and Netflix pre-loaded.
If the LIT_Box started with the process but did not complete it, email the Nology Help Desk on

Also note that enough space needs to be made available on internal storage for the firmware image to download approximately 1 GB.
