I have a Huawei B315s and Telkoms fixed uncapped LTE. I've set up port forwarding on the router (also tried the DMZ). When I check my ports (http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/), they are open. However when I try to http connect to my IP or ping it, my host can't be found.

I need the port forwarding since I want to test my website before I put it on the live server. I remember that Telkom's agreement said you are not allowed to have a public FTP or webserver on the LTE, so I was wondering if Telkom maybe drops all incoming connections.

Does anyone know if Telkom does this? Did anyone manage to get port forwarding going on Telkom's uncapped LTE?

You need to connect from "outside". Thus set it up and connect via your phone with the Wi-Fi off.

Fantastic, that worked. But why? Does the router drop any outgoing connections for its own IP?

The "inside" addresses are 192.168.x.x and when you test it with 41.x.x.x (or whatever it is) you tell the router the data is on the "outside" and the data you transmit is sent out into the internet and not to your NAS/PC on the "inside"

Hi Guys,

I don't know if this is true but it seems that way.
Let me explain the situation.

I work at an IT company and some of our clients have LTE. We have a hosted server for one of our clients that access files on it. The client has recently moved so we provided them with LTE until we get the Fiber sorted for them. Since the change to LTE they could no access their files on the Hosted server. We have also got LTE in our office. So I tested it from our LTE, same problem. Then I connected to our ADSL line that we also have at the office. Boom works fine. I can browse all files on the Hosted server. Then I tested other networks like MTN from my Phone 3G and also works perfect. Then I hear from another Customer that also have LTE also having the same Issue on a different Hosted server.

I have also tried Vodacom from a 3G dongle and also works fine.
I have reset our LTE router
disabled Firewall on LTE
Have taken the Sim from LTE and put into a 3G dongle and still would not connect to the Hosted server.

Now the Port that its trying to connect to the server is 445 (SMB)

I simply want to see shared folders on the Hosted Server and as far as my understanding that Uses port 445 (SMB)

For some Reason I just can't get through on Port 445 on LTE. Any other network is fine and I can Actually get on to the Hosted server.

So my question is if anyone has come across this issue before ?

You might have more luck with prepaid Telkom SIM. Contract T&C may say something about hosting servers, particularly true for 'unlimited' LTE contracts.

Silly question but did you make sure the port isnt being blocked by the router , the huawei B315 has its firewall enabled be default and it is a bit restrictive.

yes I did state that I did Disable the Firewall on the LTE router. I don't know it feels like it should be on the router but I even too the sim out of the router and put it in a 3g Dongle. got internet no problem but then trying to get on to the Hosted server again fails.

Sorry missed that part, if it fails from a direct connection (3G dongle) then it sounds like they have the port blocked, I will give it a test on our LTE and let you know.

Maybe setup a VPN for them to use in the interim?

Thanks FaSMaN

Would be great if you could get back to me.

I'll see if I can get a VPN going.

It looks closed unfortunately , you can try non standard ports but windows is fairly insistent on 445, your best bet is probably to get everyone on VPN or look for an alternative place to store their files, dropbox for business etc...

Thanks for the feed back. I also checked that port before. I was hoping that I was wrong. and that there is some other way then have to explain to Telkom to open that port.

I had the same problem. Seems when you are assigned a 41. IP ports are blocked. When you get assigned a 197. IP ports are open. Moved to MTN as Telkom failed to understand what I was asking.

Not a good idea though to open 445 to the internet from a security perspective. The VPN idea is actually the safe way to go. Security costs convenience
